You think McCain is concerned about your sovereignty? Amnesty much?

I heard today; if you are against amnesty vote for Obama because he will try and push something radical though and the republicans will fight him.

McCain gets in and one of the first things he does is amnesty and there are enough democrats and republicans in lock step with him about that.

a lot of talk, not much substance. But then again, this is an election year...

Germans applauded him, because he seems genuinely interested in bringing about change in the way the US does "business" on the international level. We cheered for him, because he said the rights things, and he oozes hope and goodness.

What all of that is worth, is something the US voters will have to decide.

I will say though, that I cannnot remember seeing any candidate in the last 30+ years or so, that was able to capture the imagination of Americans the way Obama can. He is able to convince Americans who were previously un-interested in politics, that their vote matters, that they can be part of a larger movement for change for the better.

This man inspires people. And that is a quality which a lot of our current political leader lack.

And yet in this situation, one American has more power than those 200,000 Germans...because that one American can vote in our Presidential election.

Seriously.. what's up with the rockstar like crowds? I'm thinking Paris is going to be even crazier.
Europe and the USA are in an economic down turn. Germany has been for quite a while now. Allot of Europeans have the misguided idea that Obama is going to turn around the US economy which will in turn, turn the European economy around. Hence why the Germans get so excited, they see him as the new economic messiah who can do a loaves and fish deal and make something from nothing.

The "shared destiny" bit worries me. Like Clinton, he will support the new world order plan no doubt.

I speak of general sentiment on the ground across the world, you know, the guys who elect world leaders? The guys who elected Romano Prodi who dragged the Italians out of Iraq, the guys who elected Zapatero who dragged the Spanish out of Iraq.
You're forgetting the the Australians who elected Rudd on a platform of an Iraq pullout.

a down turn ? huh ? ever looked at the value of the euro vs the dollar ? Germany is doing just fine. The economy is strong, we are exporting like crazy, and unemployment is at an all-time low.

Why did those 200,000 germans turn up for Obama's speech ? My best guess is they wanted to see what the media hype in the US is all about.
Also, as I said, I think Obama inspires people. He makes them feel like they can be part of something bigger than themselves, be part of a change for the better. And who doesn't like that ?

I watched the speech on CNN, and afterwards, I asked myself, would McCain have been able to mobilize the same number of people ?
I don't think so...
