I wrote in a thread ages ago about a guy who saved my neighbors life in Iraq.  My neighbor Mike (they share the same first name) was on the very rooftop where Monsoor sacrificed his body to save his SEAL buddies.  He died by jumping on a grenade that surely would have killed my friend and his spotter.  The grenades fragments still shattered my neighbors leg and his fellow SEAL, and they were in a wheelchair for months following the incident.  However aweful their injuries are, and still nag to this day, they are still alive.  They are alive because this man took the brunt of the blast to save them.   He had originally been awarded the Silver Star for his actions in Iraq, but had not received the much deserved Medal of Honor.   That all changed April 8th, 2008. . . . . .

Please watch the video, this guy is a fucking kingpin! My neighbor (who is an active SEAL and flew back to Saudi Arabia following the ceremony) and his parents were at this ceremony, and said Bush was really choked up.  You can visibly see him crying in the video itself.  Its hard not to cry listening to this man's sacrifice.

Here is the website, check out the vids and the official citation.

Mike Monsoor was awarded “The Congressional Medal Of Honor” last week, for giving his life in Iraq, as he jumped on and covered with his body a live hand grenade that was accidentally dropped by a Navy Seal,
saving the lives of a large group of Navy Seals that was passing by.

During Mike Monsoor’s funeral, at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California, the six pallbearers removed the Rosewood casket from the Hearse, and lined up on each side of Mike Monsoor’s casket. The column of people continued from the Hearse, all the way to the grave site. What the group didn’t know at the time was every Navy Seal (45 To Be Exact) that Mike Monsoor saved that day was scattered through-out the column.

As the pallbearers carried the Rosewood casket down the column of people to the graveside the column would collapse, which formed a group of people that followed behind. Every time the Rosewood casket passed a Navy Seal, he would remove his gold Trident Pin from his uniform, and slap it down hard, causing the gold pin to embed itself into the top of the wooden casket. Then the Navy Seal would step back from the column and salute.

Now for those who don’t know what a Trident Pin is, or what it looks like here is the definition and photo:

After one completes the basic Navy Seals program which lasts for three weeks, this is followed by Seal Qualification Training, which lasts 15 additional weeks and is necessary to continue improving basic skills and to learn new tactics and techniques that are required for an assignment to a Navy Seal platoon. After successful completion, trainees are given their Naval Enlisted Code, and are awarded the Navy Seal Trident Pin. With this gold pin they are now officially Navy Seals. It was said that you could hear each of the 45 Slaps from across the cemetery.

By the time the Rosewood casket reached the gravesite, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from the 45 Trident Pins that lined the top.

Some corrections I found..

While vigilantly watching for enemy activity, an enemy fighter hurled a hand grenade onto the roof from an unseen location. The grenade hit him in the chest and bounced onto the deck. He immediately leapt to his feet and yelled "grenade" to alert his teammates of impending danger, but they could not evacuate the sniper hide-sight in time to escape harm. Without hesitation and showing no regard for his own life, he threw himself onto the grenade, smothering it to protect his
teammates who were lying in close proximity. The grenade detonated as he came down on top of it, mortally wounding him.
FOR THE RECORD... Mike Monsoor was a NAVY SEAL and NOT an EOD Tech.

The grenade was NOT "accidentally dropped" by a Navy SEAL; it was thrown on their position by an Al Qaeda Booger Eater in Iraq, and Mike saved his teammates by jumping on the grenade.

It upsets me that Mike is remembered by so many for something he was NOT because of this email and that SEALs are written about as being IDIOTS.

We don't drop grenades in SEAL Team, we THROW them...

Perhaps we should all work HARD to set the record straight instead of continuing to forward this travesty...
