Built a new pc about a 1 and a half weeks ago. No problems at all until i started to play call of duty 4. As im playing the game usually after about 2/3 hours of playing on and off suddenly the monitor will just go black onto stand-by like the PC is turned off, but its not its still on. And the sound just repeats its self in a loop like its crashed. The only way to fix it is to restart the PC, but the problem keeps re-accuring. At first i thought it could be a overheating problem, but my GFX card hardly goes over 45C and the CPU around 34C.

Specs-

Abit IP35 mobo

8800GT 512MB

2GB Crucial Ballistix

Intel E4500 @ stock /w decent cooler

Seagate 250GB HDD

Coolermaster 330elite case /w Coolermaster 460W eXtreme PSU.

the problem after 3/4 hours would most likely indicate a temp problem but maybe not if your card and cpu are at those temps..like you said,my only guess would be to reinstall gfx drivers, as a crash to a standby screen whilst pc is still running is a common cause.......and to ensure that all your components are connected up properly inside your pc. does this problem only occur in cod4....???

nice rig by the way, im running the same mobo, its a good overclocker bump up your processor an get it maxed (Y), hope i helped :S

Nope, drivers didnt work. Could it be any thing to do with the power supply not been powerful enough?

I had this exact problem on BF2 with my old Comp.

I usually found that in most cases if I kept the computer running for a bit, it would return back to normal. It is rather a strange thing :?

Im not sure... but could PSU be a problem.... i mean 460w isnt exactly huge for that rig... if the CPU, Video card start working hard could it be overheating the PSU and shutting down as a precaution?

1st - don't get psu with cases
2nd- u def didn't read the 88800gt specs before you made this
you need AT LEAST a 500W psu so your 460 doesn't cut it
500-600w would be good

that PS has 36 amps on the +12V rail, i would guess it's fine.  but you never know.

by the way, did you do a clean reinstall of the video drivers?
