case just got through the appelate court though...

If it makes it to the supreme court, we may be seeing some funky money pretty soon.
Yes, I like dollar bills.  But blind people need to know what bill they're giving.

Paper currency in the US really needs an upgrade. It just isn't made to cope with the wear and tear, and the notes are kept in circulation for way too long.
That's just not true.  I rarely ever come across bills that are in poor shape.  Besides, I like the look of it.

As for blind people, why are they bitching now?  Just about everyone in the US accepts credit...

look at the movie "Ray" that Jamie Foxx did a few years ago when he played ray charles.  Look at that one scene where Ray was supposed to be payed some money and how his boss took advantage of him..

It couldn't have been racial sentiment at play there, right?  I didn't see the movie, but Ray Charles started performing in the 50's, when there was a lot more anti-black sentiment in the nation.

Besides, movies would never lie, right?

It happened then and still happens now.  Do you honestly not think that there aren't people unscrupulous enough that they wouldn't take advantage of a blind person, even if it wasn't racially motivated?

Citing a movie about a blind black guy getting screwed in the 50's solely because he happened to be blind?  Come on.

I understand that there those who would step on their own mother to get ahead in life do exist, but I took exception to his 'example'.

While we're at it, can we include tax in the prices please? It's annoying when you go to Chipotle with $6 thinking it'll cover your burrito, but it's actually $6.09 because of tax. Don't they do that in Britain?
All prices are usually inclusive of VAT (Value Added Tax) except for very large stores or wholesale stores. So when you go to buy a sandwich in Tesco and the price is 33p, that is actually the 27p ish + VAT. The money listed is the money you pay, as a whole.

DID YOU KNOW............

That the number keys in a drive thru bank machine have dots on the keys for blind people (in canada for sure).

Its the law.

How many blind people drive?

This fact was brought to my attention from a very good friend of mine that teaches blind students in the public school system.

Maybe they don't what to have to pay for a credit card, maybe they owe a friend some money, maybe they want to make a purchase somewhere that doesn't, maybe they need money to put in a card, maybe they want some money for if they lose their credit card.................

They should take Ali G's advice and print coins and notes for every denomination. A specific note for €6.82, a coin for 57c, etc.

It's time to just get rid of paper money and switch everything to implants, cards or whatever. I'm tired of carrying that crap around.

OMFG, blind people have learned to cope, there's no reason to do all this shit, it's the biggest waste of time, effort, and money ever. We really need to stop catering to every kind of person out there and just let people deal.

No, just shows that the ATM's at the drive-thru are identical to those inside the bank. ;-)

Dollar coins.  Or have a trusted friend help you fold your bills in a particular way.  Blind people are not being blocked from using money.  It's just not as easy.

The ATMs with Braille at the drive through are just an example of cutting costs. Why build two machines when you can build just one???? Saves money.

But those of you bitching about the US currency: go now and look at the denominations from $10 and above: the old normal green is being fazed out entirely. Started spring of 2007. Each note gets a different color pattern and different colors each.

As far as the sales tax goes, though, you guys gotta remember that taxes are handled at the state level for the most part. There aren't that many federal taxes compared to state taxes. It's different than in Europe and the rest of the world. Our government was created with a different system in mind compared to yours. Granted, I don't know why the computer programs can't be written to include the sales tax and whatnot, but I imagine it has something to do with so many different businesses across state lines (not all states have the same tax percentage; in Florida, they only tax 3% on food/drink but everything else is 7%, some states don't have sales tax at all, too). Then what with them all covering many states, I imagine it really makes it a havoc for the accounting people and whatnot. I'm sure there's a method to the madness, I just don't know what it is.
