There's room for improvement, but it's a step
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

i just finished the build but haven't really had time to customize the system much.  The guts i pretty much robbed from an earlier build.  The weakest link is definitely the gfx cards.  I'm waiting until mid-june to get the new GTX280 nvidias which i'll put in SLI again.  The processor is great so far - i can overclock up to 3.4GHz without any problems but noticed my 3dmark06 scores didn't improve by much - just runs the processor at hotter temps so i backed off for now.  i don't see any benefit currently in overclocking in terms of performance for bf2 or other games i'm running as my gfx cards are the bottleneck.  Maybe eventually i'll move to a RAID also.

inside the case, i'm very happy with all the room.  it's a 18" cube and indeed fits on my desk fine.  there are 8 aerocool turbo 3000 fans cooling the case and the temps seem ok.  on the left side i have the mobo and on the right side i have the HDs and other front panel peripherals.  To add some ambiance, i added a lumindisk for the front-panel which replaced my original idea of using a plasma globe.  The plasma globe was prettier but i was afraid of breakage during lan party transport if it was poking out of the front panel fan port.  On the right side also is an actual 12" wafer i got from a friend who works in semiconductor field.  he had no idea what the chip is - said it was probably a bad lot of test chips.  useless without being cut up, tested and packaged anyway.  but it looks cool.

on the front panel, i have a matrix orbital LCD display.  I can monitor the CPU load on all 4 cores, temps and fan speeds, itunes info, network traffic, and pretty much anything you want.  the program that comes with the unit allows you to customize the display and change colors, etc.  Also for convenience i have a military switch for resetting the CMOS which comes in handy for overclocking.  The front panel switches were swapped out for bulgin style switches with LED inside the switches.

one thing i'm not too crazy about is the look of the spiral wrap.  i'm going to re-sleeve the gfx and mobo power cables in proper sleeving soon.  The SATA cables are by AC Ryan and are electoluminescently lit - that's not uv reactive - they are flourescing actively.

well that's it for now.  hope you all like it.

All that flashy stuff like a Blu-Ray drive and you only have 2 7800 GTs? Seems like a waste tbh. I'd upgrade atleast to a 9800 GTX if I were you. Same with the mobo...680i's last gen and so is that CPU. You should atleast pick up a Q9300 + 780i. If you had enough money to build that, I'm sure it won't be a problem for you.

right...i wanted to wait until the GTX280s come out so i can upgrade gfx.  i recall that there were some web articles indicating that the performance in 3dmark06 and games does not change much due to CPU in quad core generations.  the bang for buck is not really there.  i think the 680i has alot of life in it yet and i'm not ready to make the jump over to ddr3 either.

the last time i totally upgraded my system was in late 2005 - early 2006 anyway so this is a long time coming for the chassis, etc.  i staged some of my other purchases along the way.  i have access to a penryn chip but they won't work in 680i even with bios upgrade from what i am told.  i'd rather have something stable than be bleeding edge for 5 mins.

freezer is such a nazi about cable management, but he seriously needs to do some room management. I fail to understand how someone who lives in a complete shit-hole can tell people they need to organize their stuff better...

With the way his rig is now, it's obvious he likes to remain in the now...so I doubt he'd want to keep a 65nm CPU past this year.

Well Nehalems will be released at the end of the year. That and a new Nvidia/Ati card would be win.

This is my old computer, which now belongs to my brothers.

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1GB 226MHz (lol)
ATI Radeon 9600XT
DVD/CD Burner
120GB HDD

And my newest computer, doesn't look to pretty in the lightning nor with the cable mess. It's the best I could do with what my case/mobo offered.

E6750 @ 3.4GHz
2GB Mushkin DDR2 @ 850MHz 5-5-5-15
Evga 8800GT @ 650MHz
2 160GB (one SATA one PATA)
some 575w PSU
Freezer 7 Pro
Thermalright HR-05 provided by jamiet which works really nice.

i test drove a copperhead but didn't care for the 'belt' around the midline of the mouse.  The lachesis doesn't have this so it's more comfortable for me.  I agree with others that the lachesis appears too 'long' but i guess you get used to it.  i'd weigh whether you want to burn 70 bucks on something like a mouse rather than something else like perhaps a better cpu cooler or an additional HD, etc.  if i were in your shoes and happy with copperhead, i'd skip upgrading to lachesis and spend money elsewhere.  i'm thinking this is the last fancy mouse i am going to get.
