Okay, with the knowledge of a few secretive and hidden World of Warcraft players lurking on these Forums, constantly keeping their heads down under fear of ridicule and belittlement ()- I'll step out here and ask the question: Is anyone interested or looking into this new MMORPG?

I myself am not familiar or even remotely interested in this 'Conan' universe, yet the PvP-orientated gameplay and the graphics style (an altogether more graphic and gory 'mature' approach) is luring me away from WoW, which frankly got boring about a year ago. Will be nice to have a new MMO to get completely lost in I think... and there's already quite a lot of positive review and hype surrounding this game. It's due for release worldwide in less than a week, and has already sold-out on pre-orders.... so, who here has heard of it / is possibly interested? Even though it has a heavy lore-based and fantasy theme (which normally repels me), the strong-PvP and competitive theme in this game definitely attracts me... as I always felt World of Warcraft lacked a real 'skill-based' combat system. More about maths than player-skill.

Just trying to stir up some conversation away from the GTA IV threads . I'm aware that there are a silent minority of MMORPG players here on these boards... just wondering what their general thoughts and impressions are.

Some links for the uninformed that would like to take a look:

Haha yes a small 'perk' of the game is that the 'Mature' rating means that beheadings, gross battlefield mutilation and of course boobies can be exposed in all of their DX10-rendered glory :p.

someone said "age of conan took so long to install" today in TF2, and everyone, including me, called him gay at the same time.

he left.

you should try EVE ONLINE, i just began subscribing to it and it's mildly interesting. it's not like wow (thank god) there is a lot of skill involved and strategies used, also there is no skill system in the way of a normal mmorpg, it's more like passive skills that give you access to new equipment etc. also it's more of an economic game where you have to mine etc to gain the money. the best things though is that skills train in real time (they even train when you are not there) and that it's such a sandbox game and culture.

EVE Online is very different from WoW yes, but again it doesn't really boil down to 'player skill' and ability in fights. In fact the combat I experienced in the first 100 hours or so of EVE that I played was extremely boring and monotonous. EVE is an MMO in which a player acquires 'strength' and ability simply from having the game and playing it for a prolonged period of time. I'd rather play a game where it pitches me against another player based on my ability, rather than how long I've had the game installed ticking away at my talent points . A good game, but I don't think I can ever really play a space-based MMORPG... extremely same-samey.

And thanks for your input Haffey, for a moment there the intellectual standard of the topic was riding surprisingly-high... nice to see you've moderated it back to the BF2s standard.

Plenty of games out there for you then. For me, I'm going to take my first real dive into the paycard system, and probably move on to something else this fall.
