No they won't be much cheaper. This is the next highest-end that will replace the not-so-succeesful 9800GX2

However, it is still unknown if there will be cheaper cards like 9900GTS. That will take some time tho. so at first you won't see any change in 8800 prices.

At least not the 8800GTX, it's still a whopping $750 here, because it's not being manufactured anymore

I guess I won't be going SLi anytime soon

Hardly anything, as others have said since there out of production and all the retailers have already made the profit out of there batches, for all they care they can sit there for years, as many do.  There is also an allocation that need to be kept for RMA purposes n things like that.

Well Im using the 640mb cards in SLI, but yeah, same here. I wont be getting anything anytime soon. What I have STILL runs everything hi/Super Hi very well.

I'm not worried at this point, as it'll probably launch at the same price as the 8800GTX. I'll have to check the 9900GTS though, it it offers any improvement over my GTS.

Nvidia changes the naming of their gfx cards after hearing complaints.

Geforce GTX 280 - 512bit memory [ - 9900 GTX]
Geforce GTX 260 - 448bit memory [ - 9900 GTS]

Just read that on fudzilla (), would make sense since they agreed to follow ATI in making there numbering much easier to understand.

Why?  Simply a case of the bigger the number the better the part.  How is that confusing?

because i'm so used to the xx00 GX2/GTX/GTS/GT/GS config that anything else is just...not nVidia to me.  plus you wouldn't know it's a 9-series card.

you do. the 9900 is GT200 = 2x0 series. The 9900GT is probably GeForce GT 240. The next generation cards wil be 3x0 series. The old GTS/GT/GTX/Ultra 8800/9800 naming was dumb because there were totally different cards with pretty much the same name.

You wouldnt know it is a 9 series card because it isnt lol.  I suppose I see what you are saying, but if that scheme is what there going with (or atleast something like it), as far as anyone is concerned, the bigger the number the better the part, starting with the 260 and 280 cards.
