I practiced on OCS & have gotten use to the M+K.
It took me about 2 hours to get use to the jet + 2 more hours for the transport heli.
I hear that the joystick is better for advanced manuvers.

if you like to solo the chopper id go with the mouse and keyboard but if your just a good\decent pilot stay with joystick. I like to solo most of the time or gun so I use mouse and keyboard.

I heard that in jets it is better to use the joystick.  I am too cheap to buy one, although I am sure I will eventually give in!
I would also just assume a joystick would be better for flying jets.  It is so hard to bank hard with the mouse...kinda like reving one of those toy cars that zip across the floor.  Although, for good hard banking, I usually use the arrow keys.

I use the mouse for all my flying (I am 0-10 by the way-except I do pretty well on single player), except I use the arrow keys for dogfighting.

Mouse and keyboard all the way. Joysticks are for the girls...

Mouse for Chopper, Joystick for Jet. As a jet pilot I would recommend the Logitech 3D pro. If you want I will post a screen of my settings, though, everyone I give them too seems to think they are very awkward, but I <3 them.

Also: Everyone that says 'Joysticks are for the girls...' are complete twats with no understanding of BF2. Yes there has been some successful Jet pilots using a mouse(Flyjetandkill). I challange anybody in the world of BF2 using a mouse to a 1v1 and I can guarantee you buddy, Joystick beats mouse.

i belive either its more realistic and better feeling to play airvehclies with joystick that mouse+keyboard is better for chopper because it's so much easier switching seats without switching your hand from one side of the keyboard to the other (i have joystick on left side of keyboard and mouse on right). but for planes I can't imagane if you have a really good joystick and a really good mouse why someone would pick the mouse for planes...tank with joystick ftfw

Personally, I think Joy is better than M+K because you dont run out of mouse space! It might also just be me becuase I play a lot of flight sims with the joy. (Where are the blackouts and redouts? )

I have learned to fly the Chopper with mouse and keyboard and I can fly pretty decent, but today I ranked up to Colonel and my next ranking needs Vet Air. Yet I can barely keep the jet in the air. I have been using just the keyboard. I am getting better, but I could use some pointers. Can anyone point out some good websites that give some good advice? Or if you have advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Also I have the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick. I have been trying to use it but with no real success. Is there some settings I should change in the controls? Or should I just stick with the keyboard?

You need to bind them and you need to be precise in your stick movements during the binding. For example, you need to move your joystick to the right to bind the roll right key and your stick forward to bind the pitch down key. Similarly to bind the throttle increase key, you need to move the throttle slider on your stick forward. Don't forget to save your settings when your done. You only need to bind one set of the controls. For example, if you bind the roll right key, your roll left key will bind automatcally and it will be the opposite of the roll right key.

I started out flying helicopters via joystick. In Bf Vietnam I probably put in 100 hours. In BF2 I logged 120 hours (ranked servers) and 50 hours single player/LAN games. I switched to M+K to seat switch better and at first it was rough: I had a hard time circling a target with the nose pointed downward. My learning curve was about 30 hours and by that I mean the time it took until I felt comfortable performing 80% of the moves I used to.

User007Gamer, agreed- running out of mouse space can be an issue. I solved that problem by puchasing a 17" x 11" mouse pad and cranked up the Bf2 chopper sensitvity, pitch factor and yaw factor to 10.

I just dont bother with helicopters, i can seatswitch now (though i havent managed to kill a jet with the TOW thing)

All i dont get is when you fire the big missile how you get it to explode mid thrust, do you just right click out of zoom, or do you have to press something ? normally it flies straight through jets / other helicopters.

I use a playstation 2 pad to fly a heli and jet its so easy and you can effortlessly do complicated manuevers, you can get a usb adapter for about £5 if you have a PS2 pad already, I tried with keyboard and mouse for flying both but I was all over the place lol everyone likes different stuff though, I just find it very hard using the mouse, if anyone wants to know I have my PS2 pad set like this-

For Jet:
Right analogue stick up/down= accelerate/decel/hover
Right analogue stick left/right= spin left/right
Left analogue stick up/down= pitch up/down (down= up, up= down)
Left analogue stick left/right= turn left/right
L1= Afterburner
L2= Flares
R1= Missile/bomb
R2= Nose cannon
Select= switch between missile and bomb
Start= Map
Square= Scoreboard
Triangle= toggle view
X= Get in/jump out vehicle
D-pad: Up= cockpit views
down= chase view
left= rear view
right= fly by view

Just in case anyone who has a PS2 pad wants to try it, I find it works really well. The setup is the same for chopper, apart from I dont use the afterburner or missile/bomb buttons, just use R2 for rockets
