I  have been asking myself this question, and I see a lot of other people wondering just how good GTA IV is.

For me, the game is a slight let down, but it just, and I mean only just beats San Andread IMO. So I would call it the best, but could be better.

What do you guys think?

sa and vice were better. 4 is fun and has great gameplay, but it's nothing like vice or sa

For me its the best, but SA is extremely close.

Though I think they are two very different games really, so its hard to compare.

I think missions in SA had a more epic feel though

Best GTA, but could have been better. Much better. Especially with the space on the Blu-Ray disc. I'm very disappointed, as semantic as it seems, that we can't go in 24/7's and the Bean Machine. It just feels like there's a lack of places to go. I mean, SA had the arena, casinos, your own air strip, the public airports, a HELL of a lot more safehouses, more clothing shops...etc. The game is in NYC for christ sakes! There should be more than 4 clothing shops.

I agree, but apparently they couldnt put all that in due to the small size of the 360 dvd's and lack of guaranteed HDD. Not tryin to start a console war, jus explaining why some of it isnt there. In an interview, one of the r* employees said they had no more room left on the 360 disks, so it would be hard to see where they could go from the current size of the game on the 360

Shit. That blows.

Fucking 360. I love mine, but that's going to be a MAJOR let down for some of the future 360 games...storage. I wish there was an install option.

I think that's why the DLC is going to be key for the 360.

GTA IV is good, but i had more fun with S.A. There are no perks to completing other challenges now, it just counts towards 100%. I used to spends hours driving round looking for cars to deliver, now there is only a few and it even tells you where they are which is a bit of a let down.

And why the fuck is it always dark, i seem to spend most of my time driving round dim lit streets at night with no headlights as they are smashed not seeing where i am going!!

GTA IV is the best overall in the series.  SA was the most impressive in scale and VC had the most immersive atmosphere.

This is raising my hopes of an even better PC version. Endless storage capabilities.

lolwut...

...it's not like they gonna add an extra city. If anything, just higher resolution support. Also, PC uses a DVD as well.

Exactly what I was thinking. Used to love (and hate) spending hours trying to find the Mr Whoopy Ice cream van, or one of the Securicar vans only to spot one during a mission or get one and then watch is pain as you crash into the water while trying to loose the cops.

But now it was all far too easy to get the cars since, first it told you where they were, and secondly they were pretty much all around the area near the Internet cafe

The game is probably the best, but Vice City comes a close second because of the sound track, and then SA.

Aww, never got it, it only appeared for the mission with it. I spent days after looking for it.

I wish you could operate the vehicles functions, like the forklift's forks and the packer's car ramp.

It also needs more fun vehicles, go-karts, tanks, hunter, vortex hover craft, parachute.

Car pimping shops, would be nice.

More heavy weapons, mini gun, flamethrower, heat seeking rocket.

Maybe a rural island, like a forest, with lots of hills and dirt and stuff. Have a rally in the Sultan RS

It's the best GTA. The amount of detail is amazing in all aspects, and the MP is too fun. BUT, they could've made it better. Much better. Hopefully the next in the series using this engine/platform will have more "fun" things that SA had.

I actually have an Ice Cream van parked outside my safe house just now in gta4 because I thought there might be a similar sort of Car Theft mission. But sadly it is just parked there doing nothing!

Also, when I turned on the ice cream van music, no one came to get an ice cream! what a shame

Yeah, the only thing I can think might help is if the 360 has an external BD drive released, I mean they did it for HD-DVD, but I suppose that would mean people would have to buy it to play new games, which defeats the point of the console. But then again, it would be the same with installs, you'd have to have A HDD to play some of the games, which would go against consoles being more for casual gaming

GTA 3 was my ultimate favourite.  For me, as good as san andreas and vice city where, they only built on the success of that.  GTA3 was the daddy.  The newest one, I have the same issues as everyone else.  I felt that for such an expansive city, it was somewhat down on what you could do.  Some of the old favourites of tanks etc are gone, and a real lack of customisation of charector.

Tbh, if space was the issue, I dunno about you guys but I would of took a 10% smaller world to gain the features.  It's not as if u are exploring every cul-de-sac in the place :\

R* said the 360 hindered their development as theres not enough space on the dvd i think.
