so i just killed a furry spider about 2 inches from front to back (including legs). it was a tan color and i have no idea what it was. anybody have a guess? its not a wolf spider or a brown recluse, for sure. maybe a tarantula but thats really small for one of those.

i live in CA btw, if that helps.

I also live in CA (East Bay) for part of the year. My sister pays me to kill insects that get into her room.
No idea what you killed tho.

Probably a tarantula, maybe a juvenile.

It's the only hairy spider I could see on this page.

Good lord.
That's a tarantula alright.

Ugh, that is a scary looking bastard.

If it isn't a daddy longlengs or a jumping spider, I kill it. Mainly because i'm ignorant as to which are dangerous to my health. One night while going around the outside of my house I killed 17 black widow spiders. And usually there is a huge ass scorpion patrolling around the front door eating insects. If I kill that scorpion, it is usually replaced by another of equal size within a couple nights.

One of the downsides to living out in the desert countryside.

Edit: I'd like to add that I have no problem with the giant scorpion roaming around by the front door(I actually think it's cool), but I know that its tiny offspring will eventually infiltrate my living quarters and sting my ass.

yeah volatile, me too.

@ATG: i killed it because it was in my garage and we have a cat that lives out there. and cats love to eat insects, so yeah. didn't want it to get bit.

Holy ****! That's some spider you have there.  I too, live in south California, and I've never seen anything larger than a daddy-longleg.

It's a Huntsman spider.  Maybe it's fake, but I don't think so.  Bear in mind that it is not actually the size of the clock, so that might be a little misleading.

That first pic (the one with the legs behind the clock* is a novelty clock, do not be alarmed.

They, however are huntsman spiders. I am arachnophobic but I can tolerate them as long as it stays on the ceiling. They aren't aggressive and they eat the aggressive ones.

I am usually not afraid of spiders. But if the critters are bigger than the hand I would use to crush them, I get a little anxious...

Seriously, if I saw spider legs like that behind a clock there is no fucking way I'd take the clock off the wall.

I concur.  I'm pretty sure I would go around trying to find something to kill it with, i.e. some sort of toxic spray, a hammer, something..... Something eerie about seeing four legs pertruding from a clock or any object for that matter. Odd and sintilating at the same time.
