My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.

That can't be real. If 70% of their electricity comes from Coal, and Coal will run out in 12 days. I'd imagine this would be a pretty big deal. Doesn't seem like it.ceslayer23 wrote:

so do they really only have enough coal for 12 more days? im confused
Yeah seeing as I'm doin an economics degree, and China has a pretty big effect on the world economy, I'm sure a lecturer would have mentioned it!Mek-Stizzle wrote:

Its not the coal underground that ran out....Mek-Stizzle wrote:

They have coal for 12 days in reserves, meaning its dug out, processed and ready to be burned.
So if they stopped importing coal right now, and if they stopped mining it right now, they would have reserves for 12 days.
Since their reserves are steadily shrinking it means that their mining/importing is not keeping up with the demand. Thats the problem. But Im guessing they can always put couple of million people underground to mine more coal.
I see. Demand is outstripping supply. Well, they either need to bolster their own coal mining industry like you said, or import more (which is worse, because most countries are slowly trying to phase out coal)
or
Get that three gorges dam up and running to alleviate the grid. And start using alternative sources. A country like China, they should just replace all Coal with Nuclear plants. They have the technology base to do it, the money to do it and they don't have to worry about protesters because they'll just shoot/jail them.
Although they'll be more reliant on Uranium/Thorium imports and shit, so the best bet would be to just send a few more million people underground. I guess.
Not good for the environment though, but these guys could care less...

Make that:
China has 11 days worth of coal left.
China has 11 days worth of coal left.
Thus causing America to need more power, and America taking up the restmost of the worlds coal.Spider1980 wrote:
Great.. Now even more Chinese will move to America...
Oh, and Mek, do you know how long nuclear power will even last?
Its 3 years if everyone starts using that, so count China as like 1/8 of the world, they will still need more power. This is why i hate humans.

Anyway, the search for fuel has led us, humans destrying coral reef's, forests, rivers and basicly the whole planet.
Infact, what the largest countries are failing to admit is that, they are responsible for the state the world is in.
Sure, we cannot totally fix the world yet, but we will be able to, by using more, more, more power. I'll admit that i use coal/oil electricity, but renewable sources are just not popular, cheap or effective.
Its our way of life, sparked off by Europe and America. Now that we have all became accustomed to killing ourselves, if we cut off electricity this very second, the average human would just go out and smash a few doors in, and riot some more. If the next generation don't ever use fossil fuel electricity, they will be saving themselves.
The US is often referred to as "The Saudi Arabia of coal" because of the huge amounts of it found domestically. Though, the US does import quite a bit of the stuff because of emissions standards.Bf2-GeneralArnott wrote:

Also, what the hell are you talking about with nuclear power lasting 3 years?
