Does anyone know you can watch a demo recorded in cod4 and pause it? I am interested in making a frag movie this way because it saves space and doesn't have a fps decrease when you are playing and recording.

I have found a few programs that have controls for watching the demo, but when you pause the demo it just stops the frame it is on, and the demo contiunes to play in the background. So when you unpause you have missed some footage.

Is there any way to pause the demo completly? I would like to watch the demo and only fraps the parts I want. A rewind and fast forward function would be nice?

It's impossible to rewind, and I haven't seen a pause one either. Demos aren't video files, they're tiny scripts that can only be read one way by the program. Just watch the demo, fast forward, drop to normal speed near good bit, press the fraps recording key when the good bit comes up, stop fraps after good bit, fast forward etc.

Recording the demo does not hurt your fps, it just simply records the game and saves it as a very small file compared to fraps. To start recording, open the console and type "/record <filename>" witout the " or <> ofcoruse. Then when you are done recording, type /stoprecording to stop the record. I might be slightly off with the commands, but the console should produce the right command once you type in part of it. You will know if it is recording because in the lower left corner it will show the file size of the demo.

Once you have your demo recorded this is how to fast forward. Copy and paste this in your config file under the Bind ~ to bring up console and over the CTRL to toggle crouch or whatever you have it set as

bind PAUSE "toggle cl_paused"
bind UPARROW "timescale 100"
bind DOWNARROW "timescale 1\""
bind LEFTARROW "timescale .5"
bind RIGHTARROW "timescale 10"

so this is what it should look like

bind ~ "toggleconsole"bind PAUSE "toggle cl_paused"
bind UPARROW "timescale 100"
bind DOWNARROW "timescale 1\""
bind LEFTARROW "timescale .5"
bind RIGHTARROW "timescale 10"
bind CTRL "gocrouch"

Then start your game up and do this in the console

/devmap Crash(the map doesn't really matter as long as dev map is on) disconnect: /demo (demo name)

You don't join a server you just load the game up and do exactly that in console. I think cl_paused should pause the demo i'm not sure though try it out if you want. Hope I helped you a little though =)

EDIT: Added a space between the ~ and "toggleconsole"

The devmap command does not seem to do anything. I type that in and press enter and nothing happens.

Site is German, download is english. Full control, fast forward, slow down etc, even offers third person perspective of a first person demo.

Devmap doesn't change anything it just let's you no clip gives you infinite ammo etc.. You just got to type the commands, when you do this it allows the demo to fast forward slowdown etc... i'm sorry about that I gave you the wrong command I didn't notice before

/devmap mp_crash

sorry about that again it will start a server when it loads up just disconnect and then watch your demo, then use your timescale keys to fast forward and slow down.

Couldn't you record the game with a demo (no fraps), then play the demo with fraps on record, then edit the fraps video?

Thats basically what I am doing, but I am thinking rather then record the entire thing and edit it, just record the parts I want to save time on editing. Thats why I want these tools.

Thanks johnnyextremer great information now I can start on some movies.... Binding keys and starting ya map with devmap to enable the cheats sometimes doesn't work with game mods... Do u have any ideas for if you are working with demos from different cod4 mods? Am guessing it because the recording was done on a map without cheats the server settings are different and dos;nt allow to to change the timescale
