Gets a shiny new thread just because it's more likely to be read this way

EVERYTHING you need to know about the fps dependent physics engine:

http://www.funender.com/quake/info/fps.htm

Also how to strafe jump:

http://www.funender.com/quake/info/strafing_theory.htm

And connections tweaking:

Enjoy

Um.

Can we get a simple explanation?

I honestly can't be bothered to read all that just to jump a centimeter further in a video game that has absolutely no impact in my life.

i tried reading all of those, it's hopeless

i'll settle on practice to get better

haha ok

basically the game engine recalculates your position, what you're doing, your speed, and all the other physics stuff acting on you everytime you render a frame. But the value for gravity has to be a whole number in order to save on bandwidth, which means that at certain fps values you get a bonus in jump height due to rounding errors. If you consider that you get this tiny bonus added on after every frame for the duration of a jump, the bonus adds up to quite a lot.

Conversely then, some fps values actually make you jump worse as the rounding error is rounded down rather than up.

Old news. But Yes 125 for competition. In pubs you can probably max it out at whatever you want. This guide is for people who like to compete.

I remember playing against this one team in a scrim and they were so fast on backlot, I don't know how they go into midhouse and b alley so fast, and they jumped ridiculous far. Is this all because they tweaked their FPS?

Tried to read this thread since yesterday.

Now I can finally acces it. Thats exactly what I wanted to know. And its not that complex. To add to aries explanation:

The whole "world" is divided into little boxes and since you can´t be inbetween two of those boxes, the rounding often puts you in a "higher" placed box. Hence the higher jumping.

Crazy shit, hadn´t thought of something like that.

Anyways, thx and +1 to you sir!
