Yes you can. And older version was 1.12 not 1.13, so maybe that's why you didn't find it. But yes, that 357 MB version of 1.2 patch is all you need.

ok...
just using the Battlefield 2 v1.2 (357MB) patch to my fresh install of the game "did not" work.
after trying to load into a server at about 47% of loading the game crashed to the desktop.
so...
your right it wasnt 1.13,it was 1.03 and Id found that but it is not needed.
the patch I needed was the one prior to this latest patch release,bf2_patch_112.(280MB).
I found it
so after doing an uninstall of the game(leaving my bf2 folder, profile settings etc.)
this is the process I used and had success after doing so,getting into the game with"no" problems.
*uninstalled game(exept for bf2 folder)
*defragged system
*rebooted
*installed game
*rebooted
*updated punkbuster http://www.punkbuster.com/
*rebooted
*installed bf2_patch_112.(280MB).
*rebooted
*installed Battlefield 2 v1.2 (357MB)
*rebooted

loaded game,went into a server,(round was almost finished,91-37)
got 5 kills,one death and a win
exited game a very happy camper...

reason for going throuh all this shit, went to take out my hard drive,in the process hit my e-geforce 6800 128 mb ddr agp8x,and she was gone.very sensitive hardware as I found out the hard way.
had always been a nvidia man, going back to the 4 series
sales person did a good job on selling me a ati radeon 1300
went to install it and thats where all the problems began, wont go into detail, but it was pure hell as I reconfigured something I shouldnt have trying to get the POS to work.
resulting in reformatting.
took that POS back, got my refund and spent $80 more(with $50 mail in rebate) for a
e-geforce 6600 gt 128 mb gddr3 agp 8x and this mother kicks ass...

* as this process worked for me,it may not for you,but its worth a shot if any of you run into game istallation problems.

Killer Yank, yours is the first decent set of comments I've found after hours of looking through this forum on this issue with the patch. I have almost the same problem. I'm not sure what version of BF2 I had. I got it in mid-Dec. as an early Xmas present. I'm assuming it had the 1.12 patch. Everything worked find. I have an nVidia Geforce 6800 running on a Dell 9100 with 1GB of RAM. After I downloaded the 357MB 1.2 patch file from the EA web site on the 16th (took 2 hrs on a broadband connection late at night) nothing has worked since. I was able to get into a few servers and then crashed to the desktop partway through map loading. Then just recently it would just crash to the desk top upon selecting any server, and I tried dozens of the past couple of days. I've uninstalled BF2 keeping my profiles but now I can't reinstall it. Whenever it tells me to put in Disc 2 my drive stops working (I know there is nothing wrong with it.) I'm going to try the defrag tomorrow and see if that has any effect.

If anyone has any further useful information please let me know.

are your drivers updated?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

on the previous reinstall before this last one Ive posted about, I had similar problems
*and I actually had to replace my cd/rom drive,getting a atapi/e-ide interface 52x 32x 52x cd-rewriter
*also my game,it was scratched up pretty bad(taking better care of this one)
Id had my game since it came out back in june 05(Im on my 2nd bf2 account)
I got lucky and didnt have to pay for my 2nd copy as walmart just took it back and I exchanged it

alls I can say is,look and see if everythings plugged up tight on your drive,if so and still having probs
*it may be your drive, mine was wore out.
just a suggestion

good luck,as I know how frustrating getting this game to funtion properly is,being a bf2 addict myself and not being able to play for 3-4 dayz was hell as I need my bf2 fix
after doing all of above I now play without any problems and my new videocard has added much improvement to the game...

also the game is not produced with the patch applied to it,you need to apply the patches,so go through the above patch methods, using the bf2_patch_112.(280MB) first, then Battlefield 2 v1.2 (357MB) second.

*again these things worked for me,and may not work for you.

The drivers for my nVidia were updated to 8.1.9.8 per nVidia's site. I had to finally call EA for help as I was getting tired waiting for their 24 hr response time online and getting nowhere with help. I reinstalled BF2 in Safe Mode per EA and that work for the reinstall. They said they were going to email the 1.2 patch because the download I did OFF OF THEIR SITE was probably corrupt. I need the 357mb patch because my READ ME file says my game is v.1.03. I had to call a second time because I didn't receive the patch. The tech had my email wrong. Now that they have the right email address it's way past the time they said they would send the patch. It would be in a zip file but I wonder if my system could be blocking it from getting in due to the size it might be even in a zip file? I've turned off everything in order to get it. Looks like I'll have to call for a 3rd time to get it.

http://www.fileplanet.com/
register with fileplanet
thats where I got the latest Battlefield 2 v1.2 (357MB) patch
make sure to d/l the 380 mb,not the 85 mb

bf2_patch_112.(280MB)
and here's the other one,get it
http://files.filefront.com/Battlefield+ … einfo.html

dude you can deal with ea,but waiting for them will kill you and the file size may be near impossible to email
get those patches and try the process I had posted earlier...

those are the "only" patches you need to run the game
also be patient,as the patch may fail a couple times, just reboot and keep trying until it completes.

good luck soldier

Killer Yank, I finally got everything to work. Here's what I did before and after the calls to EA today.

*Downloaded the latest drivers for the GeForce 6800 (v. 8.1.9.8 also listed as 81.98) from nVidia web site
*restarted
*Reinstalled BF2 in Safe Mode (wouldn't install in regular mode)
*restarted
*reinstalled the 1.2 patch (357mb) from the EA website link. My CD game version I received in Dec. was v1.03 w/o the 1.12 patch (only took about 56 min to D/L due to my broadband connection)
*rebooted

I got back into BF2 with all my log ins still intact and everything works so far.  Didn't have to do Punkbuster.

EA told me the first patch I downloaded must have been corrupt (even though it was from their site).

The uninstalling and reinstalling worked (although a proper patch should be seamless but I guess EA doesn't understand that and expects everyone to be a computer science specialist).

Need to do additional playing to see what everyone has been talking about but the M95 sniper rifel is good right now. Did a couple of kills right away standing up.

I haven't see any "FREE" unlocks yet. I want that new sniper rifle and PKM.

good to see you have it up and running
let me know how the graphics are as the 81.98 is for the 7800
and the 82.12 is for the 5-6 series
I installed the 82.12,went into the game and all was good...

Graphics are still fine for the 81.98 driver. The 6800 was on the long list of cards that this update supported.

roger that
I too found the 6600 gt on the list
d/led the 81.98 also
the 82.12 was working fine for me, but it was from dec. 2005 and the 81.98 was from feb. 2006
so Im updated with 81.98 as well
