So yeah... Simple enough question.

Just got a new desk and I have enough space for a decent mousepad, but I am unsure if I should get one at all.

Do they make that much of a difference while playing? Or just using your mouse normally?
I have a G7 currently on wood. Never had a mouse pad since I moved to laser.

Anybody going to persuade me on getting one?

I used to use a mouse on wood and switched to an IKEA mousemat. It was vastly better. Now I'm on a Fragmat and it's alright; my mouse feet have completely worn off so it moves sporadically occasionally - but I do recommend one nonetheless!

I fucked my last table without using one, the soft part on the mouse made the desktop look like it's 20 years old.

Having a Razer eXactMat now, it's epic. Two sides with different shapes, blocking thingies that you don't fall off the mat. <3 Razer

I'll try to persuade you. I got a new desk and after 3 months the spot where the mouse is, got scratched. Imo its smother to play on a mouse pad.
I have this and i couldn't be happier. http://www.geek.com/corepad-deskpad-xxxl/

the Steelpad 5L is great for the G5/G7. I have it and it is dead smooth, and large enough to cope with my low sensitivity. Also, if your current mouse feet are worn out consider getting a new set of pads, they cost 5 euros here and work well together with the 5L.

Depends on your desk surface.... I find mats anoying (either get in the way or in the wrong place)... so I just got a desk with heavy (wood) graining for the optical to pick up on and a tough surface.

My pads are in perfect condition. The wood is very smooth and hard wearing.
Hm, still not convinced.

No it isn't. It's 39.99 Euros. Pull your head out of your ass. If I am going to get one I want a decent one.

I don't know if it improves performance or anything but why not just get it to protect your table?

They actually don't get as good reviews as the Razer or NO.ID or Steelseries.

The Razer Destructor got reviewed:

It looks awesome.

I usually just use a piece of cardboard, you'd be surprised how precise it actually makes things, but they were down (naturally). My current piece is one you find in new shirts

However, I have changed my opinion on all those fancy cockwank mousemats and when it dies I will invest in an Exactmat.

Until then, cardboard pwns.
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.

I  used to make custom mousepads. I think Surgeon bought one, can't really remember I made so many.

So if you're thinking about getting one from me - Get one
If you're thinking about getting a pro quality one - Still get one.

That's if you have the money, I'd never spend anything over £15 for a pad.

Jord, how the hell did you of all people, end up in the mousepad making racket?

Havent used one in two years now, I allways had those little shitty things and occasionaly I just scrolled off the damn thing, throwing your aim off. So I've abandoned moustemats all together, even though the very big mouse mat that someone posted here does look interesting. But on the other hand I've had this desk for a year now and it still looks as it did a year ago.

I bought this
Razer Destructor

Seemed to get the most positive reviews, and it looks awesome. I hate all the mats with decoration on them.

I got a 50p mouse pad from IKEA. It is awesome. Don't need anything better than that really.

It's very simple.

If you have a laser mouse, there is no need for a mouse mat. If not, then it's a good idea to get one.

Most definitely!

I have a G5 with a Flexiglow mouse mat. It's acrylic and has a hard textured vinyl-like surface. It works very very well. It actually makes the response time and accuracy a little bit better.

Check out the Steel series pads, they make some good stuff.

Mouse mats are must! I used to have really cheap one but now that I have had QcK Steelpad for few years I can't even imagine not having one. And it really does help in games. Very accurate and fast.
And for that price it is amazing deal.
