just wanna know, what are you guys doing, if you search for new bands/music?

We all have our favourites but sometimes something new would be nice for a change (at least for me:P).

I found a pretty nice webpage called last.fm - it notices all the music you played and after you listened to more than 300 tracks it generats a sort of neighbourhood for you, listing people with a similar music taste.
and they have several radio station (one called neighbour radio) which plays random music you might like - it takes the tracks you listend to as a base for it's selection.

pretty nice and already found a huge load of interesting bands there

anyone else got other nice methods to find new bands?

I use pandora.com.  You input your favorite genres or bands, and it will search a massive library and find things you might like.  If you don't like something it brings up, it will apologize and find something else.

buy a "magazine".... its a weird concept to all u pc nerds.. its a paper based media transfer device, made from pulped wood and embossed with an inky residue.

Buy NME [new musical express]
its the new music bible.

What is this "buying" activity you speak of?
Pandora is a free music service on the web, and it adapts to your personal tastes and will find you bands/groups that you like.  Then it's up to you to go out and get the albums.

smart response... but I dont give a s* on some guys reviews for CD's and you cant find anything else by reading a magazine. I'd rather love to listen to music and to get my own impression from it... which leads us to the point...

because MTV and our 2nd local music tv-station viva are just loaded with bs* chart-music and ringtone-commercials and our radio station do not exactly cover my taste of music as well....

but I'm going to check pandora - thanks for the hint

u need promotion.  nme does that.

okay gotta give it a try - tho I highly doubt that I will find it here in germany... but still worth a try

the new music thingy is the good point of last.fm (and now that I've checked it) pandora - it always presents me music I never listend to before - music that would never be coverd in a german magazine or tv/radio programm - already give some pretty good bands this way
