BF2S Forums Really Bad Lag Suddenly

Hmm, specs? Has he ran PBVC? Tried deleting the PB folder in BF2 and reinstalling it? Get him to follow the below steps when you post his specs.

Then (just in case) follow these steps:

1. Manually update your punkbuster using pbsetup.exe (just to be safe)

2. Download pbsvc.exe from PB.

3. Run it, select the uninstall option.

4. Run it again, select the install option.

5. Reboot if you want, just in case. I didn't and it worked fine for me.

BF2 is indeed a mysterious beastie. Is it XP? I'm going to guess he has the latest drivers for his video card/motherboard/soundcard, but if not, update them. The next thing to try would be to increase the amount of times PB checks up in game. To do this open the console in game by pressing the ` key then type:

pb.sleep 500 <enter>
pb.writecfg <enter> ( it could be pb_sleep 500, i cant remember offhand)

Next you could try clearing the BF2 cache located here: C:\Documents and Settings\your mate\My Documents\Battlefield 2\cache  delete all files WITHIN the folder.

Let me know how that goes. Also try a few different servers to make sure the problem isn't at the servers end.
