Well lads, I'm looking for a new camera that needs to be;

Compact
More than 7MP
Have at least 3x optical zoom
Optical Image Stabilization
Good battery life
Decent LCD screen
Low shutter lag
Above average video recording
Good at taking photos in low light/night time
Have red eye reduction or wotever you call it
Cost around £105-135/$210-270

Any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance for all useful links, advice, suggestions, etc

Protip: Megapixels != quality

I think my little Canon camera has more megapixels than my mom's professional camera, but her pictures are so much better in quality. Very little grain, etc.

Panasonic Lumix FX 12. Lovely little camera, at about your price. 2.5 in screen, 7.2 megapixel, easy to use, compact. Brilliant result.

Yeah, I know, but I do have a budget and anything over 7 or 8MP is more than adequate.

That sounds like the majority of point and shoot cameras out there now.

Yes indeed. But some are better than others and I'm hoping that some of the readers here own/or have used some cameras worth suggesting seeing as buying a camera is a bit of a long term investment.

I use a DSLR.. not exactly compact.

I trust the reviews at Cnet when it come to cameras.

I had Canon, a very expensive model. Battery sucked, it overheated itself and now its broken. Going for Sony next week.

Canon SD750 or SD1000

Both are very high quality cameras, I think the SD1000 is cheaper.

Dont get dragged into the megapixel crap...

Unless you are blowing it up to make wall murals then 5-7 mp is great detail

Whatever you get, make sure it has IMAGE STABILIZATION.

Seriously.

I'll see if I can find something now....

I bought a Panasonic lumix model about 2 years ago and it cost me $299. I couldn't be happier with it, image stabilization 10x optical zoom, etc. Good quality pics and this camera is 2 years old, the new lumix models are even better.

Lol, you still need a tripod for longer exposures and whatnot, but image stabilization makes most of your casual shots keepers. I purchased an sd1000 at the begining of last year and most of my low lighting indoor shots were just rubbish(I only use natural lighting). I ended up replacing that with a powershot s5 is and let me tell you, that image stabilization works wonders.

Speaking of Powershot cameras - Canon SD870

This is within your budget, and you really can't go wrong with this particular line from Canon.
