How to reduce your ping a little

I've noticed my ping in COD4 is a lot higher than other games. When I ping my server box I get like 45, but in-game I've had 80-90.

I did this easy tweak I found and it lowered it to 65-70.

First, you limit your FPS to something you're comfortable with. You can see your FPS by typing this command:

/seta cg_drawfps 1

I limited my FPS to 55, so this is how you would do that:

/seta com_maxfps 55

And then the last step is to set the max packets per frame. Now in my experience, there isn't a magic number, so try some different things. I set mine to 55 also.

/seta cl_maxpackets 55

That's it. It helped me and helped my clan mate, but it didn't help one clan mate. So it seems it's a hit or miss type of thing, but it may help you.

Just thought I'd share.

How the hell do you even get FPS of 55 in the first place? I never get over 30 according to xfire and my comp is relatively good.

Lower your settings, get rid of crapware, don't run 30 IM clients in the background, "relatively" compared to a Commodore?

Use cg_drawfps 1 to show your FPS. Enter it in the menu screen, though, as it will not work while connected with a server.

I get around 100-130 on most maps and it never drops below 95 on the others.

This is bullshit, I tried it didnt work, all my mates tried, and it also didnt work, on a Ducth forum all I got was negative....

And the same did round for Soldier of Fortune II , and it didnt work there also...

30? WTF? I get constant 100's, and my PC is the PC moses used to kill time on the ark.

???? It's called a config. If you put your Packets the same as your Fps you're going to get crappy hit reg at 125 fps. I'm not sure about 55 fps though and the max packets.

Yes but you can't send to many at a time, I would say never go over 63. I can't really explain to much becuase I got all my info off a site about the Quake 3 engine but I fogot the name. You are right just don't put it too high or else it will start to effect your hit reg.
