I've noticed my ping in COD4 is a lot higher than other games. When I ping my server box I get like 45, but in-game I've had 80-90.
I did this easy tweak I found and it lowered it to 65-70.
First, you limit your FPS to something you're comfortable with. You can see your FPS by typing this command:
/seta cg_drawfps 1
I limited my FPS to 55, so this is how you would do that:
/seta com_maxfps 55
And then the last step is to set the max packets per frame. Now in my experience, there isn't a magic number, so try some different things. I set mine to 55 also.
/seta cl_maxpackets 55
That's it. It helped me and helped my clan mate, but it didn't help one clan mate. So it seems it's a hit or miss type of thing, but it may help you.
