How do you change paint colours on cars?
I've selected the area I want and I can't find anything that will change it realisticly, only a solid colour.

That's a pretty hard question to answer since different techniques work best on different images. What's the image?

If you've got the area outlined pretty good, you can make a new layer, and tweak the coloring of the whole layer

You can change the color with adjustment layers and photo filters easily, my photo manip skills are average at best and i did this in less than 5 mins added different color reflections for a warmer feel and stuff

I would duplicate the layer and make a mask on it, fill the mask with black then draw the area you want to see in white (the car's colored parts). Then apply any color modification technique on the layer itself (not the mask). Usually works pretty good and it's pretty easy.

Lemme give it a shot, brb.

Just add an adjustment layer and use the channel mixer option. Mess around until you get the color you want, then erase everything you don't want colored in, like so:

It's a half-ass job, a little too contrasted in color, but it gives you the idea.
edit: Oops, forgot a little bit in the windshield.

1. Make a new layer, pick your color/brush, brush over the car roughly.
2. Set the new layer to Hue. (Drop down menu in the layers palette.
3. If you see any extra color around the car, erase it.
