im looking into getting a dual core desktop because the P4ht i use i just starting to lag out when i run large auto cad files and 3d architecture programs. i have a gateway P4ht now and its just not doing the job. is there anything i can do to the gateway mabie to beef it up or should i just look into a new dual core? not very techy on comp but some specs:
500ish watt PS
P4 w/ HT
geforce 6800 gs ddr3 256
few fans
and a bunch of dust

I'd go for a brand new machine personally, with a C2D and a more powerful video card

autocad ...needs a lot of processin power...get a new rig the p4 wont beef up to those standards

i thought on of those stickys had a kinda check list of thing if your were to build your own comp such as ..PS, MB, GFX card thing like that as a list of required components for a build any know where that was cant seem to find it.

if i went pre assembled when brand to go with? just want to check out there price VS. cost of actual parts so if i wanted to build. would be a 1st so thats kinda holding me back.

Its a good price i admit, but no OCing there. Mobo is probably basic with no advanced functions and a cheap PSU can send the whole system to hell.

Well just as a comparison if you built what's in that link yourself

quad + gtx + 750Gb hd + 4gb ram + x-fi + card reader + case + dvd drive = £640 + delivery (about £20) (the pre-built)

vs.

quad + gtx + 750Gb hd + 4gb ram = £550 from Overclockers, then there's the case, psu, sound card, dvd drive, plus card reader

If he wants to play Crysis on high-yes. Besides buying an Intel processor nowadays without OCing it, is waste of money.

mobo = standard dell piece of shit ..which will most likely completeli bottleneck the gfx cards power anyways
psu= yet again standard piece of crap...probably around the 500w mark...1) most likely not powerful enouhg to run 8800gtx and 2) watch would break easily destroyin ur supposed 640 pounds worth of "good" components

gfx = most likely a value version of the card..with poor records

never buy from dell....regardless of there so called "good pc's"...self build FTW!
