See, we Americans typically travel longer distances in our cars than you Europeans do. Usually when we travel we want to bring the whole family, hence several suitcases etc. We also travel on interstate highways that have at least a 65mph speed limit. So we need the larger size because you won't fit all that stuff in a smaller car and a smaller car loaded down will get terrible mpg at 65-75mph. We also build our parking garages for all sizes of vehicles, not just puny 2-door econocars. Oh and good luck not getting stranded trying to go through snow in a little jellybean car in the midwest US. I'll take my full-size car and my 4x4 suv any day.
Aren't our freeway speeds relatively low comapaired to many European places? Anyone see the top gear where they bought cheap rwd beaters and drove across africa?Stingray24 wrote:

They make 4wd cars and wagons with decent ground clearance. Driving on an unpaved road doesn't require an SUV.
Not having been to Europe, I'm not sure about the highway speeds ... excluding Germany of course.
There are 4wd cars and wagons with good ground clearance, but I don't think that describes most cars on the road, let alone an econocar. I was speaking more about winter driving conditions than unpaved roads. On snow clogged roads a small, light vehicle is the worst thing to drive.

for YEARS there wasn't much besides RWD cars to buy, the power was about what it is today, and the tires were much worse.
They did fine.
Buy good snow tires and you will be fine in the snow with the VW.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Where I live the VW, even with snow tires, will be too low and too light and I'd get stuck.
I much agree with you.Even though im 196cm (6'5'') i I can fit into my 1986 Volvo 240 sedan with little trouble. That of course with the seat all the way back and the top half is leaned back as well.Bernadictus wrote:
American cars in Europe have a major defect. They have cheap plastic interior. The look larger then they really are. They suck up enough gasoline to dry up the middle-east and don't get me started on driving those things through the parking garages in the Netherlands.
Exact same except black, different rims and would never tow a boat. Also it manual transmission.

You too can rent one for $3,500 per day. Or the discounted rate of $21,000 for a whole week.

I just realized there is something very terrible about this thread.
There isn't a single picture of a lotus 7. Don't worry I'll fix it before god shuts down this forum in anger....
(the standard lotus 7 builder pose)
One of these (and a 92 honda accord) WILL be my first "expesive" car.

Exactly. For what you pay for a Veyron it seems like Bugatti could have found a way to make it look good, too. Even the EB110 looked better ...
