I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128 running on a multisync lcd 21", yesterday i downloaded ATI's updated catalyst drivers and when i installed i still couldn't run the catalyst control panel. About an hour later my monitor flickered off then back on. Another hour later the monitor shut completely off and then i heard the sound for an error prompt. I turned the computer off and then on and the monitor still wasn't going on and i couldn't even see the CMOS or BIOS settings screen or anything. I checked the wires and everything looked fine. Is the problem my monitor is burnt, or could it be the drivers? Someone please help because i'd rather not have to buy a new monitor. Thanks in advance
OK, there is a good chance that your motherboard blew. Im guessing all items are powering up on your computer? Easiest way to check if it is the motherboard is leave the monitor but unplug the video cable from your computer. You should get a message saying no connection present on your computer screen. Try that first. If it does or doesnt work respond back.
Hey slick, I'm not home right now but last night i turned my comp on and off and the monitor was still no good. I heard all the startup noises and everything like that, someone even IM'd me. even when the comp is off the monitor should turn on and show the yellow light or green or somethin, but nothin, no lights, just blackness...it sucks...i believe it's the monitor but i'd love for it not to be...that was the most expensive part of my comp
Hi,
Have you really checked all the wires connecting from the monitor to your computer again?
I once had the same problem, and it was a cable that wasnt connected right.
If you have another monitor somewhere, try to connect it to your computer and see if that works.
But i think too that the monitor is the problem...probably burned out...or its your motherboard, like Slick said.
We had the exact problem here as you have 2 weeks ago.
Monitor flickered and then BANG! my bro almost shit in hes pant.
the computer worked, but the monitor didnt..just black like you say...so our monitor crashed, we have an old one now and everything works fine again for the moment.
You didnt hear a bang or anything else?
Well..otherwise i should try a computershop near to your house and ask them.
Otherwise i think there is nothing else then buy a new monitor?
And btw, if i were you, i'd better not install catalyst drivers if you want to play battlefield 2, but just the normal updates..
Me, and my dad and i read other people, experienced many problems with it, but there is a patch out though..maybe it works.
Good luck!

Hey Echo, thanks for the reply. There was no bang just blackness. When I get home from work I'm gonna try a new monitor and if that works i'll uninstall the catalyst stuff and hopefully that'll work. I'm gonna double check the wires before I do anything though. If the monitor is burnt out...how much does something liek that usually cost to fix, cause i don't really have the money to go buy another 21 lcd right now...and i'm not gonna settle for anything less!!!
Hi. I had kinda the same problem a few days ago, but i have a old tired fx5200... ;(
The monitor just went black on me, but I had the : no input detected, coing to sleep mode. message.
I plugged out the video and power cable from my computer, and left it alone for ten- fifteen minutes. when I plugged it back in, it worked.. (Thank god..) But I think it is my old crappy card that have had enough.. going to get a x850 xt pe soon, just hope the fx hold on until I can afford it...
Don't know if this helps you, but thought I'd tell just in case.

well i usually keep my comp on all the time. so i've got it off today maybe it was just overworked and needed a rest hopefully...god willing when i get home it'll like me enough to work and let me play battlefield
Well, this is not completely related to the subject, but the above post strongly reminded me of the following:
When I treid to overclock my AMD 2500+, (both in my BIOS and with the little jumpers) the monitor went blank on me too. It just said "no signal Imput" but all the sounds and procedures were just like normal. Changing back the jumpers solved my problem. when I left it off for a few minutes I only got to see the very few first moments of the boot screens and such, giving me the change to change back the BIOS settings.
I do have a quite old monitor a Compaq S700, must be well over 5 years old now (I got it secondhand)
Perhaps this could help, but for me it is just an opertunety to vent
Good luck mate.

My guess is your video card is the problem. Good excuse to upgrade to a newer card.
we're good now, got home and it worked so i uninstalled newest drives, thanks for the feedback guys
ati sucks them catalyst pannel thing never works on my computer it makes everything go funky and lags my computer to hell then i get an error and my computer removes the drivers and restarts....
but the drivers work its just that pannel thing
