OK so if I'm not talking about the fastest car or biggest etc. What I want to know is what car is the best all rounder.

Taking into account :

Performance
Fuel economy
Handling
Space
Price
Or any other criteria that you think is important

At the moment I think that the VW Golf GTI is probably on of the best all rounders. It seems to tick all the above boxes, although it can be a bit expensive.
Do you know any others?
Edit : Preferably giving reasons why.

I think the Land rover and Nissan Patrol arent really all rounders as they are down on handling and Fuel economy, possibly performance as well  ( although the new Range Rover Sport hammers!!!)

I think US cars need to be more economical. 3.8L seems overkill for the Monte Carlo, and the BHP seems low for such an engine too. Unless it's some sports version that can hit 140+ mph

Over here the average capacity would be like between 1.3 and 2.0l 4 cylinder engines. Some of these cars can still kick like a horse though.

I think it's more or less proportional when you look at average wages etc..

3 series ticks the right boxes as well, maybe a bit expensive in some countries though.
