Oh and just to put people in the picture the Guards formed alot of the British Regiments. Some of the first Marines were in fact from the 3rd Battalion the Grenadier Guards (My old lot) some of the first recruits when the Paras were formed were l think Welsh guards. ( I'm not overly sure of that one, l read it some where many moons ago ) and the SAS was founded by Sir David Stirling who was a Scots guard and one of the squadrons is called G or Guards Squadron. So thank christ for the Guards!! Oh and the Guards have been in every major conflict going! The Paras have'nt!
They've only been around 60 years though and heres one for you. Before the Falklands war the Paras were on spear head and training constantly, so were fighting fit before deployment. The Scots Guards were ceremonial troops before being deployed. So they were not at the peak of fighting form. They had the 3 weeks going down to sort themselfs out and they still managed to take the mountain!137twozerosniper wrote:
haha but every conflict the paras have seen they finshed completed their objectives. how many can say that

If you want to read about a proper, proper SAS guy, you should SERIOUSLY read "The Shooting Gallery" by Gaz Hunter. One of my favourite books of all time.
He went
Green Jackets
SAS
Mecenary in Afghanistan
Back in SAS (At the same rank as he went in ONLY PERSON EVER to do this)

agree?
I believe your book is mistaken. While there are some units in the USMC considered "special ops capable" (SOC), there are no designated USMC SOF ...yet. Force Recon is the closest they have to SOF, but they are still considered SOC USMC units, not dedicated SOF.M.O.A.B wrote:
I've got a book about different Special Forces groups around the world, SAS, Delta, SEAL's, GSG-9, GIGN etc. But it also lists the Royal Marines, which I can see as they are classed as commandos. But also the USMC is classed as a special forces group in this book, I didn't know it was.
