whenever I play the low E string, it hits the raised metal part of the fretboard and makes this funny sound.
You can adjust the height of your strings on the bridge I think. Depends which guitar you have. I know in my owners manual, it says if you take a flat head screwdriver to a part on the guitar, you can lower or raise the strings, which depends on how much space you want between the strings and the frets.
Sounds like your strings might be too low, and you could always try raising them a bit. When you play a string, the vibration is rattling the string against a fret, giving you that sound.
But what do I know, I'm a nub
Yeah I'll try that, I'm scared I'll fuck something up though
Well, it's basically a bar holding the strings down. If you loosen it up, the strings will move up with it. Just don't go overboard and take the hold thing off.
