Don't think so, and I really don't see why you'd want to... jpeg isn't always a good format for a lot of stuff.

I'd save as PNG anyways. But yeah, I don't think it's possible. Furthermore, if you press ctrl+s before having saved the thing as a psd then you can choose your file format anyways...

Yea well i know jpeg isnt the best format, but its still the one i use the most... For pics.  Other then that i use png when there is some transparency. So i wanted to set one as default so i dont have to always go into the roll down menu.
And my cam take jpeg picture.. not RAW so most of the time i work with jpeg.

thks for the advive.

..You know it flattens the layers/image if you save it as anything but PSD, right?

In fact, tif files are normally bigger than PSDs... :p

Tif files are sometimes a pain in the ass to open. JPEG files degrade after saving them over and over.

Use save for web, it stores the last used save settings.

I would never save as tif to preserve layers... too big and an even bigger pain in the ass later.

I never said anyone should. I'm just pointing out that that is not correct xD
I prefer PSDs. My standard formats are PSD, GIF, PNG and occasionally JPEG to compress a picture.

I only ever use Save for Web, shrinks the size of the photo with only losing minimal quality.
