Okay for everyone who is pissed off by call of duty, because it isn't what you wanted or it did not turn out the way you wanted, then this may be for you.
I posted on this a while back, but i'll do it again as the community who play the current version is rather small as the game was only a mod for unreal 2004.
But now they are releasing a retail version of the game and it will be very good by the looks of the trailer.
Here is a link to the official site where you can download the video or just take a look at what the game has to offer.

*Small Note*
Red Orchestra is a realism based mod, if you get shot you die. for example snipers are 1 shot one kill, bolt action rifles are one shot one kill etc...
If any of you have played Americas Army it is sort of like that with WW2 weapons and also without the round based gameplay, as red orchestra uses a reinforcement system just like BF2 where you respawn every 15-30 seconds.

The current Red Orchestra Community are hoping that the retail version of the game will attract a lot of new players especially as it will be downloadable through steam (aswell as a boxed version), and hopefully people who were disapointed by COD2 and DOD:S will give this a try as i'm sure you will like it.

What the hell is wrong with CoD2, i thought it was great.. very intense, play on veteran and then tell me if the dmg is realistic or not.

i just got into it a few months ago, and yes sprad is still the fmj chief along with kba.
Its actually pretty good now and quite a few of your guys still play on publics, you should give it another go when  ostfront comes out.

I never said there was anything wrong with COD2 but i know that there are a lot of people that were unimpressed by it.

*edit*
the green stuff is the tracer from the mg fire (basically when a machine gunner fires it leaves a tracer of where the bullets go, just as it would in real life)

Ugh, I hated Red Orchestra for UT2k4...it looked like they stole all the models off of Call of Duty 1 and ported them into Unreal, and then added awful human models, AI, and animation.

Red Orchestra 41-45 has been released on pre load on steam and the boxed version will be around in a few weeks, so if your interested get downloading.
The cost is around $25 or £15 depending what currency you use.

It is a mod based on the unreal engine but that doesn't mean it has to be anything like UT2004 (which it isn't).
There are lots of games based on teh unreal engine, such as swat 4, americas army, splinter cell and theres loads of others aswell.

Just take a look at the trailer and see for yourself, this game is completely realism based as i said before and it is very tactical, just like a real war.

well, it IS realism BASED, but lets not get carried away.. i played RO for 18 months, its a very decent game [tho dont quote me on that from beta v3.1 onwards, or re the retail version].

its realism claim comes from the fact that its essentially one shot kill, no crosshairs [ie, iron sights - think BF2 without crosshairs before u aim], and emphasis on fatigue.  It has a great comminity as i know full well, and some great aspects to its style, but its not CoD2 comparable.  CoD is a feckin arcade shooter.  RO aims higher.

Its still an FPS.

i agree with you completely, RO is completely different to COD2, but that was my original point, it offers something different to the big games such as DOD:S and COD2.

At the end of the day, the development team (tripwire interactive) have worked very hard on this game and they really deserve some credit for it, which is why the current RO community is trying to help get the game some exposure and popularity in order to attract new people to the game as it really could do with a few more clans getting involved to boost the ladder size.

I saw a popup about this game last week or so when loading Steam. I checked it out and have to say I am impressed with what I see. I am also impressed by Tripwire's relations with their community. They are on the forums ALOT and seem to really enjoy talking with everyone.

I will buy this game when the boxed version hits the shelves--I am not much for just downloading software. I like to have a box and manual (I am just anal like that).

But anyhow, I think this game will be a real nice escape when more realism is needed from the likes of BF2 and DoD:S.

I helped on that mod back when it was for UT2004... I wasn't an official nor major part of the team, but I was in touch with 3 of the guys and I did a lot of testing/fixing... and then i stopped talking to them for a while..... they won the Make Something Unreal contest... made tens of thousands.... now they have a game for sale....

makes me wish I had joined the team.
