Hi there all.

I use to play BF2 a lot last year up untill about April when my video card burned up on me. I just fanilly got back into playing BF2. And I'm have a bit of a problem, my ping is around 120 or so. But when I use to play back in the day it was in the 30 to 40 range.
I'm running a pent IIII 3.2  2 gig of ram 512 vid ATI 1650 pro 160 hard drive. And use comcast cable. Every time I play I'm really choppy and cant even get a shot off at some one on time to killl the. I know I'm a bit rusty but not that bad.

If someone could help me with this. it would be greatly appreaited.

    Thanks NEMO.

Is its ping, or fps your talking about (asking because of the low ram)? Are you playing on servers close to you? Whats your advertised internet speed? What processes are running in the back ground?

Tell you the truth I'm not that good with computer stuff. You said low ram I just went from 1 gig to 2 gigs. And not sure of the ping or FPS. Where and how would I find that out?

when you go to the multiplayer lobby click on "ping" and it will arrange all the servers from lowest to highest accordingly. just look for the ones at the top which have the lowest pings and you should be fine.

Your RAM isn't a problem, I think Fateless misread your post, but he makes a good point about what other processes are running, and what kind of speed your connection is rated at. Check that out first. The PC should be fine. How does it run in single player?

Let put this way. In single player, it runs like a champ. I can usually get well above 100 in points and that is set on Veteran. It's only when I get into servers that it slow the hell down and choppy. I tried to change the pings on the multie play part but every thing is way over 110 ping.

Indeed i did, i misread the amount of ram mate.

Ok, take a SS of your running processes and upload the image somewhere (ctrl/alt/del then click processes, then press printscreen, then open paint, paste).

Then (just in case) follow these steps:

1. Manually update your punkbuster using pbsetup.exe (just to be safe)

2. Download pbsvc.exe from PB.

3. Run it, select the uninstall option.

4. Run it again, select the install option.

5. Reboot if you want, just in case. I didn't and it worked fine for me.

PBSETUP: http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

PBSVC: http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Then try a round. Let us know how it goes.

Far out....next time, click the tab "User Name" to organise them.

End these while playing:

msmsgs.exe (windows messenger)
Googlebar (uninstall if possible, it sucks)
wmiprvse and winault (spelt that wrong, someone will correct me im sure...part of windows update)

You might want to consider stopping the hp ones also, as im sure you wont be printing while your playing. Im not familiar with AOL, so i cant recommend turning off those as it may stop your internet connection. 57 processes seems like a lot to me, after boot i have 27 running.

Whats your advertised net speed? Have you ran a speedtest? (http://www.speedtest.net/) What settings are you using in game?

Let me know how that goes.

Hmm, doesnt look like you killed the processes i mentioned mate..From the results of your speedtest you should be fine with ping.

How are you joining games?
Using a router? If so, what type/model?
Ports forwarded?
Shared connection?

No negative on the killed processes. didnt do it yet and not on a router. It's a cable modem and on it's own cable line right from the pole. so no TV interference.

OK all killed and then some. It still had me in a high ping. Well I think I'm going to call it quits on trying to get to where I like it.

Thanks for all your time and help with me on this matter

THANKS again Fateless

-try defragmentation of your HDD

-check your antivirus, once I installed NOD32 and it was impossible to play, I had to switch it off because it was too active, though only when ingame lol

-firewall, try to open all ports

-dunno
