apologies if this is in the wrong section. But assuming this is the COD4 forum....

anyways, I've had this problem ever since I've installed COD4 a few days after it was released, and I've just been dealing with it, but now it's really starting to piss me off.

Whenever I load up cod, and then load into a map, I can usually play for about 20 min (sometimes it doesn't even happen at all) then not only the game, but the entire computer freezes.

now is this a graphics issue? I don't know why it would be, but here are my computer specs anyway.

Operating System:--
Windows Vista Enterprise Edition

Processor:--
Intel Pentium D 3.00GHz

Memory (RAM):--
3 Gigs of DDR2 memory

Video Card:--
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (not entirely sure about onboard mem, but I'm pretty sure its  256mb)

and just to make sure it's not an issue, I'm running 64-bit version of Vista.

So, any help on why my computers freezin?

your video card might be overheating, what level graphics you playing it on?

Well from what I can tell, most things are turned off a few are set to normal, and the only thing I could tell was set to a level (low, medium, high) was water texture detail, and thats set to low.

So if i had to take a guess, I've got it all set to low.

and I'm playing at a 800x600 rez, which blows, because my card is capable of 1280x1024. But setting it to that gives me such crappy game play, its not worth the tradeoff.

might be a memory issue

my computer get this problem on certain mods where it does not unload previous maps when i go to the next map, and eventually, the RAM fills, and the program crashes

It doesnt happen much anymore but having an uneven number of gigs of ram can make it go abit funny

Serious?

Anyway to fix that problem?

I'm honestly starting to think it's my third gig of RAM...

We just got that third one for christmas and it crashed my computer a few times to a BSD when we first installed it. Then I took it out, rearanged the 4 sticks, (it used to be like this: 1 gig, 512 mb, 512 mb, 1 gig) because of a tipoff from someone that the reason the computer was messin up was because of how they were arranged. And after I did that, everything has been fine (from what I can  tell) ever since, except for the occasional entire computer lock. It usually locks up while playing COD tho.
