You english people pay money to an old lady and her family so they can do ABSOLUTLY NOTHING!!! When we Americans pay taxes it goes to the government and which most the time uses it to take care of our country and pay its bills.
Sure, it may not always be put to the best use but at least our tax dollars aren't being used for something like paying the lawn care bill for Buckingham or so the queen can get her hair cut with gold scissors.

Don't know if this was touched upon, but about our (Canadian) currency having the queen's pic on it, its simple to anybody who took a basic history class or even a random schmuck on the street, Canada is still part of the British commonwealth, although we can make our own independant decisions, like an 18 year old in college, we moved out, make our own decisions, we can tell our Mother (England) to fuck off while we marry a whore (USA) or we can be momma's boys (Canada's participation in WWII) and follow them wherever they go

The Monarchy brings a lot of revenue in from tourism but more importantly British companies have won huge contracts with other countries. These contracts have often been mediated by the likes of Prince Andrew. If it were not for the 'Royal intervention' then the likes of British Aerospace etc would not recieve the kind of contracts to which it has done. Quite often when Royalty from other countries are involved in commercial deals, they will only deal with other royalty - hence the importance of our royal family.

Well technically the Monarch is in charge of the country. The Prime Minister has to ask HER permission to dissolve parliament and she asks HIM to be the Prime Minister after his party wins an election. So basically she rules the country though the PM. If she doesn't like what the PM is doing she can constitutionally remove him and force a new election, or just place someone else in charge. The only reason she dosen't is because Parliament still has to make the law, and if Parliament is run by someone without the support of the majority of the MPs no one is going to be making any laws.
The Queen is like a fall back position for the UK, if the PM starts getting too ambitious and power hungry she can stop him. The PM cannot go to war without the Monarchs permission, only the Monarch can declare war, obviously she won't be doing this alone or against the wishes of her PM. The PM does still have all the power, but technically he is only doing this through the Monarch. So its not like they don't do anything at all, having them there stops our politicians simply doing what they like for 5 years before an election.
