True. But LH as a shitload of subsidiaries flying for them don't they?colonelioan wrote:
Two airlines in one team are always better than one. I'd look for what AF and KL make separately.
* SunExpress, Airline based in Antalya, Turkey; 50% owned by Lufthansa (50% Turkish Airlines)
* Swiss International Air Lines, an airline based in Zurich, Switzerland owned by Lufthansa
* Lufthansa Cargo, flight logistics company
* Lufthansa Technik, aircraft maintenance providers
* Lufthansa Systems, largest European aviation IT provider
* Lufthansa Regional, a brand operated by an alliance of several small regional airlines, including Lufthansa CityLine
* Lufthansa CityLine, a regional carrier, wholly owned by Lufthansa
* Air Dolomiti, an airline based in Trieste, Italy
* Delvag, an insurance company specializing in air transport
* LSG Sky Chefs, the world's largest airline caterer, which accounts for one third of the world's airline meals
* Lufthansa Flight Training, a provider of flight crew training services to various airlines and the main training arm for the Airline's own pilots
* Condor, a charter carrier, of which Lufthansa holds 24.9%
* Lufthansa holds 13% of Luxair.
* 49% of Eurowings, but full control, a regional carrier wholly owning Germanwings, a low-cost subsidiary operating short-haul point-to-point flights from a number of bases in Germany
* 30%, minus 1 share, of BMI, a UK airline
* Lufthansa has 19% of stake in JetBlue.[5]
* Lufthansa Commercial Holding, containing over 400 service and finance companies of which Lufthansa holds shares
Indeed you are right but you can say the same thing about all the other airlines that are in the top 10, thats how they make business!

AF/KL also has a shit load of subs if you put them together.
Just out of curiosity, how many large German owned airlines are there? I'm betting that if there were one American owned airline instead of several large ones (like Continental, American, United, Delta and Southwest( that the one would be vastly larger than Lufthansa. I'm not knocking Lufthansa, just saying that when there isn't ANY competition it's probably not such a big deal to be the world's largest. I'd be willing to bet large cheese that the total of U.S. airlines is well more than the total of German airlines.
Yes.. I played soccer over there for a summer. It was a blast.

Frank Whittle?
The Gloster Meteor?
Britain actually had jet fighters in service at the same time the German's did, but only used them for shooting down V-1s.
and you're comparing a country the size of a US State. US is a way bigger market for your airlines, Lufthansa is what KLM is for Holland, Air France is for France, BA is for Britain,Dersmikner wrote:

we all got 1 major airline. (some western European countries ) comparing of the US to 1 European Country is irrelevant...
with this kind of stuff it should be EU vs US, I mean like The Netherlands has the population of what? metropolitan area of LA?
about Airfrance-KLM they have:
"
Air France (including Régional and Brit Air)
KLM (including KLM Cityhopper)
Transavia.com .
CityJet
VLM Airlines
Air France-KLM also partially owns several other airlines. These include:
Martinair (50 percent share)
Kenya Airways (26 percent share)
Alitalia (2 percent share)
" (from wikipedia)
"
The fleet of Air France-KLM includes the fleets of its subsidiaries, the fleet of Air France (257), and the fleet of KLM (103). Furthermore the fleets of Régional (63), Brit Air (44), KLM Cityhopper (55), CityJet (35), and Transavia.com (32) are fully part of the company. The total number of planes in the fleet is 589 as of January 1 2008.
"
also they had some stuff going on with KLM - Northwest Airlines, not sure what remains from that after it became Airfrance - KLM.
Jensen whipe your nose, something brown is on it
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
