So i got my new pc this morning and it all works fine.

But then when I turn it off after powering up for the first time and go to turn it back on again, all it does is turn on with a blank screen for 4 seconds, then turns off for four seconds, then turns back on for four seconds and so on. This has really pissed me off cos it's my first build and now i'm stuck using the shitty pc i tried to replace.

So anyone have any ideas what i could do cos as I said this is my first build and I am extremely annoyed.

+1 to helpful suggestions

oh yeah my specs are-

Asus P5K-SE
E8400
Arctic cooling freezer pro 7
8600GT
WD 250Gb hd
2Gb ocz ram 800mhz

Here's a couple things to try:

Try a different power supply
Reset the BIOS
Take all non-essential things out (cd-drive, hard drive etc)
Try different memory and try all of the DIMMs with each stick

Post back with results.

Try a different power supply - done that but nothing
Reset the BIOS - done that (maybe its corrupted?)
Take all non-essential things out (cd-drive, hard drive etc) - check, but to no avail
Try different memory and try all of the DIMMs with each stick yep tried that as well.

Take all RAM out and then try to start it. It should start beeping. If it does, put the RAM back in and then take the CPU out, then start it. It should beep again.

If it doesn't beep, there's a good chance that your BIOS or motherboard is the culprit. If it does beep, that's a good sign that your BIOS is not corrupt, because it is trying to POST.

ok so i just took the ram out and nothing - it just turns on and then after 3 seconds turns off - no beeping

So, if you get no beeps when you remove RAM or CPU, I would have to say either your BIOS is screwed or your motherboard is screwed.

Do you perhaps have a spare motherboard that you can test the CPU, RAM, and video card in?

yeah i tested them in my brothers and they worked fine - the other is that i tried his 8800gts in my mobo and that didn't work either.

Are you sure you didnt put thermal paste on the CPU pins? Put the ram in backwards? Leave the plastic on the video card?
