I was trying to play BF2, said to insert install disc, did that, I had previously had BF2SF in there which shouldnt have been a problem. Anyways, after I put the CD in it still said insert disc, so I went Start/Explore/DVD Drive D and it does not notice that there is a CD or a DVD in there. Was working fine 5 min ago, then I got the blue screen of death and computer crashed. So started back up and I have this problem. Any ideas on what is going on?

Well, the BSOD could have been from the DVD drive. Perhaps a wire got loose or something. Try a different IDE or SATA cable, and if that doesn't work try a different drive.

Only got one drive, Ill go switch out the cable. Hold on.

On a second thought, I have been getting BSOD about twice a day now. New computer, all drivers are updated.

Could be the fact that you smeared thermal grease all over your CPU...seriously...

Do some diagnostic tests. Run Prime95 (on both cores) or Orthos (on both cores) for ~10 hours. If there are errors then it's not stable.

Also, run Memtest86+ on each memory stick individually for around 4 hours. If there are errors, once again, it is not stable.

If it's not stable, there's a chance that it is damaged.

Well one, I dont know how to do that, doesnt matter though, Ill can google that, but if they are not stable, what does that mean...?

Like I said, it could mean they are damaged. There's loads of reasons for instability, though. But considering you put thermal grease all over it, there's not a lot of guess work as to why it would be unstable.

To make Prime95 work on all cores: Make four shortcuts on your desktop. Name them Core0, Core1, Core2, and Core3. Right-click Core0 and go to Properties, and then in the Target area, add -A0 at the end (after any quotes).

Example: "C:\Program Files\Prime 95\PRIME95.EXE" -A0

Do this for all of the shortcuts, but add -A1, -A2, and -A3 respectively.

Then open each of them, and go to Advanced - Affinity and change them to the cores 0, 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Now, go to Options - Torture Test and select In-Place Large FFT's for each.

Let them each run for about 10 hours (all at the same time).

Now for Memtest86+, just burn it to a bootable CD/DVD/floppy/flashdrive/anything bootable, and then let it run for about 4 hours.

Ok Ill do that test when I go to bed tonight...that should be in...about 10 or 11 hours. Sound good?
Also, I took out the old SATA cable and replaced it with a new one, the DVD Drive is still noticed, as it was before, but it does not notice the CD in the drive.
Went in control panel, it notices the DVD Drive being there, I just checked, but it does not notice any CD or DVD I put in the drive.

Maybe it's something simple like being dirty? Got any canned air?

I got high pressure air for a nail gun, but thats probably a little powerful. Lol. Also, I was looking in control panel, and it is calling this a CD-ROM drive, wtf is up with that, its DVD.

Any ideas? I cant think of a way I fucked up the DVD Burner so its probably some technical issue. Would really like to get it fixed.

Ok heres my guess, it is not reading the DVD. The drive is working fine, its connected, and it is noticed, but it doesnt read the CDs. Anyway to fix that or is the drive fucked?
