OK... I'm buying my new puter tomorrow and have just enough cash to get either GT or GTS.
Which card is better? I know the more ram (on the GPU) the better but I'll have a quad core CPU and 4GB of 800mhz ram.
Will there be a problem running say... Crysis on high depending on the card?

What's the diff between GT and GTS?
I know this sounds stupid but I just don't know

check the shop's website where you gonna buy it from and compare the MHz of both cards. or give us a link to these sites and we'll check it for you.

Well, I like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130082
As for the GT 512mb... I have not picked one out. I was just curious.

That was a bit more helpful. What makes them different? the ram size?

No it's newer and improved versions of the same cards, which make them faster and better.

benchmarks. You can has them.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

You can look at core clock, memory clock, ram type, and some other things. However, benchmarks are by far the best way to see which is better.

Wow. There is a diff but for the price, the GTS is not bad at all. Me thinks I'll get the Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb 500mhz, 1600mhz.
Thanks Lucien for the benchmark idea.

Go for an 8800GT 512. So much more for $30. (Cooler, single-slot cooler, better performance, less power consumption... And so on.)
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The GTS 320MB is a crap card. The GTS 512MB is 100 times better.

Alright so the GTS's you picked spacebandit72 are old, pretty old. They're build on the previous G80 core and are more power consuming, heat producing and in case of the GTS's also less performing. You will want a new card for good performance (not that they perform crap, the old GTS's), and because they're not more expensive anyway. The G92 (new core) GT is better than the old GTS, the new GTS G92 is better than the new GT.
Look at it like this going from top performance to lower performance:

G80 GTX/Ultra are on top, but also very pricey (and in some cases outperformed by the new G92 GTS, but because of lower memory amount and bandwith on the new GTS, the GTX/Ultra still win)
Then theres G92 GTS which is a very decent card, just a little less performing than GTX/Ultra but extremely good for the price.
Then there's the new G92 GT, which is a little worse than the GTS but still good and a perfect price/performance ratio.
And here you get the old G80 GTS's with 320 and 640 MB... They may have higher core clocks or higher amounts of memory, the new core technology on the GT/GTS still wins from them. And besides, theyre not more expensive anyway so in conclusion:

Get a new G92 GT/GTS with 512MB, and don't buy the older GTS's with 320 and 640MB. They won't run Crysis on high, and a single G92 GT/GTS won't do it either if you are playing on larger resolutions, but no PC at the moment can play Crysis maxed out. It will still be decent though.

End of speech, lol.

Crysis wont even run all high on Tri-SLI 8800Ultras with 4GB of DDR21066 RAM and a Q9650 CPU. They tested it.

1280x1024  everything on ultra-high.  it runs, but i had to scale back quite a bit on some things if i want the game playable at an acceptable framerate...

to dragon, i bet it's just shoddy coding that is holding it back.  look how xp users were able to crack the game to run in ultra high mode.  i think maybe they overreached with the coding, and even though the hardware can/should handle it, the code itself is causing the problems.  just a guess though.

Try that in triple SLI. I bet i can max it with 3 Ultras on one mobo.

Definitely get the GT 512MB. The newer chip is better than the old one.
