I remember in Battlefield 1942 with the map Coral Sea, endless complaints led to most of the good servers having this deadzone on the enemy carrier. Despite the fact that some of the best action on that map was being forced to bail from a burning aircraft into hostile territory to fight and survive long enough to steal an enemy plane and get back in the air people still wanted this zone. It wrecked a unique and fun gaming experience.
Part of why the Battlefield franchise appealed to me in the first place was the complete and utter freedom to do anything you wanted. These zones just take the fun out of Battlefield.
