The footage shown here is from the demo file of our (ESF's) TWL match last night against Draco. The footage is synced together, so there should be little delay if any between players.

Background:

- Infantry Only
- 5 vs 5 TWL ladder
- Map: Dalian
- Length: 3min 40sec

Criteria for responses:

*Before we go ANY further, let it be said that yes there is medic whoring, dolphin diving, bunny hopping. This video is NOT to address these issues, it is NOT to address the music, TWL, Me, Skills, my Team or anything not regarding the practicality of the video. This video is 3min 40seconds of match footage in 3rd person. I do NOT want to see responses like "That is 4 minutes I'm not getting back." Remember, you didn't have to watch the video, and I gave you fair warning about it's contents.

*Questions that I WOULD like to see addressed are:
- Is this kind of video making practical for study (ie having a team watching to study their strat/weaknesses)?
- Is the 5 way split screen confusing, in your opinion?
- Did you have to watch the video more than once to interpret the action?
- Were you willing to watch the video more than once?
- Were you only able to focus on one player during the action? two or more?
- Any other feedback that you think would be constructive regarding the making of a video in this manner.

*Please let it buffer/download completely before playing. The audio will not work if you do. Video maybe boring without
*There are some blackouts in some areas, none of which occur during action. No idea why, just ignore please.

A zoomed out overview would be better to study strategy. You could always add a corner video of side action but that is too much, 2 max.

@Ten24: Great suggestion. I hadn't thought of that.
@Flyjetandkill: Let it buffer and there is sound, as noted in the original post.

No.  No one requires music for study purposes.

Yes.

I would if I could.

No.

Sensory overload.

It's infinitely better to capture the overall picture and movement of teams than to highlight players.

You need to offer another way to view it. Stage6 is horrible for buffering for a lot of people, me included. I watched a bit, but the five views was a little much and I didn't load enough for the sound.

@ genius: Thank you for your feedback
@ cable: I was unaware stage6 was such a problem for some viewers. I will make it available for download in the future.

Keep the feedback coming guys. I appreciate you staying on course.

coming from a person who has played hundreds of bf2 matches/scrims, the only way to get better is to practice. practice communication and just scrim your butts off, messing around with different strats and stuff. creating/editing/watching movies is a huge waste of time imo. just get out there and play together.

no offense, but my "clan" hasn't played bf2 together in more than 6 months, but i bet we would wipe the floor with 90% of the teams in twl just because we have spent so much time together since '05 and we all know each other's strengths and weaknesses. the key to winning matches is teamwork, not skill.

You might want to decrease each players "screen." and have a bit of black around the boxes. That way it's not just constant unmatching motion on the screen.

@ ig: We match about once a week, and scrim frequently. I agree with you whole heartedly. I was just looking for a means that was less dependent on everyone being on at the same time due to school and other time constraints most of my teammates and I have. If we can play 1 scrim, video it, and analyze it at our leisure.. instead of playing 5 scrims and get the same thing out of it.. perhaps it would be more efficient. This was of course just an expirement.

Buffering=annoying as hell

Not too sure about your tac tics there but I'll shut up

EDIT: After watching some more I have to say it's way too confusing, I like scrim movies where you can see the enemy..here I just see you guys running, shooting, dying and chucking nades..

@ jimmy: You make a valid point, and this is what I feared most. What I was going for was a means of watching EVERYONE's view synced together so we could analyze what is going on at any given moment to address what we are doing wrong, what we could be doing better. It appears as though it is more convoluted than anything else though.

You might also practice how to keep a 3 min vid under 140 MB. 50 MB is a reasonable size for this length

Yeah and you had good intentions but thing is it's too difficult to concentrate on 5 different players Even if I do switch from one to another I have no idea what's going on because I haven't been giving my full attention to that player. It's a good idea but it's a little to confusing

Sorry bro

@ Black, keep in mind it is actually 5 videos running at the same time. Hence the huge file size. Normally it would be considerably smaller.

im not critisizing as i liked it... but you could always do 2 views insstead of 5... one corperating all 5 players and what they are doing... and the other capturing the other 5 players... would make it less confusing... as watching 5 screens is hard to keep track of some stuff happening.

hope i help in some way it may have been said icba to read the other postsother than your original post..
but one question can you review mine... mines in the media section 2 (but read original post) would be greatful

Questions that I WOULD like to see addressed are:

- Is this kind of video making practical for study?                  : Perhaps, Strategy depends on other teams known weakness, imo.

- Is the 5 way split screen confusing, in your opinion?            :In that quality, np. Consider 3-5 seperate vids per match. Same timeframe, 1 per team. See below.

- Did you have to watch the video more than once to interpret the action?                       :Yes, twice.

- Were you willing to watch the video more than once?                                                   :If it was good at first. Got to be good at the start. Yes.

- Were you only able to focus on one player during the action? two or more?                    : Seen twice, so none specifically.

- Any other feedback that you think would be constructive regarding the making of a video in this manner?

As mentioned above..In higher quality and consider 3-5 seperate vids per match. Idea was good, but too hard to "see" what was happening in the side (peripheral view) of each player.

Same time frame, 1 per team, as in one BR file plus one fraps per team? The unique footage collaborated from the 3 would be great.  Just my 2p.

- it lacks a minimap to see where is which action going on.
- it is confusing, i had to watch the video 3-4 times to get all action coordinated, but then its okay.
- see above
- see above
- two at maximum
- window of commander without action could be smaller size during command time if it is the centered window, or the squadleader should be in the center window
