I thought GUIDs were tied to your specific computer, because PB detects your computer specs or something.  Now someone is telling me otherwise.  What's the lowdown on GUIDs?  Do they come from the CoD 4 DVD?  Or do they stem from your actual computer?

nothing to do with your computer, nothing to do with your DVD, a GUID comes from your cd-key so say you got a new cdkey your GUID would be completely differant.

Thats right so dont listen to anything others tell you

I could have sworn it was linked to your computer though...

I think part of it is.  Comprised of the key and some hardware.  Otherwise; how would hardware bans work?

But, taken from PB website:

What is a guid?

In general, GUID is an acronym that stands for “globally unique identifier”.  The guid inside PunkBuster is used to identify players with something more solid than their playing name or IP address.  Your guid is loosely based on the cdkey that was used to install the game on your computer.  When Server Admins kick or ban a player from their server(s), PunkBuster uses the player's guid to enforce the kick/ban.  Since it is based on the game installation, it is a better way to identify individual players than by looking at their IP address or playing name.  For those concerned about privacy, PunkBuster uses a 128-bit one-way hash (a mathematical function) to generate the guid from the cdkey so that no one can figure out or compute your cdkey by knowing your guid.

Yeah they do i think. GUID is made from cd key it says, so its probably there to stop you from getting banned from a server, changing your ip so you can play again.

Ohh, your MAC address eh?  So let's say you've been banned by PB.  You change out your NIC card and voila, you have a different MAC address and therefore you're not banned anymore?

Not that easy.  I've heard it's also got ties with your hard drives, but don't quote me on that.

i would suspect your routers mac address, not your PCs nic.  keep in mind, when you're playing in the series of tubes, others see you by your modems IP, not your pc's.
