As an asian person, I sometimes find myself wondering just why the hell these white people (lol ) like such cliche things like sweet and sour chicken and stuff. I'm sorry, but if you go to Taiwan, that isn't eaten as common as it is in "Chinese" restaurants in the western world.
However, some of you have taste potstickers > all. dumplings are the best when you know a good place to get it (not all dumplings made in chinese restaurants are good... they differ. Some have more pork, some have more green/white vegetables, some are just made in a different way, e.g. dough skin thickness).
Additional things that are good is Ma Bo Tofu (which is this beef thing, kind of spicey with red chili in it and tofu (not that crappy shit in sold in western countries that those idiot vegetarians and hippie's eat.. the processed kind which is smooth like jello/gelatin! they are sold in specialist asian supermarkets, there are a lot in southern california). There is this famous Py Gou Mien (T-bone Noodles) restaurant in Taipei, which serves pieces of beef stewed in this DELICIOUS tomato soup, with noodles simmering in it. Additionally you can order fried pork steaks.
You guys seem to be missing this one thing: Loong Bow! This is basically a dumping but made in a different way. Different shape, and it is steamed.
There are cantonese foods, not sure if they are also considered chinese, but did anyone ever hear of Ha Gow? There are these specialist restaurants called "Tea Time" where waitresses drag around carts with little plates of food, and you order them when they come around. Then they use a stamp and ink your order card (which works as a recorder for all the food you've ordered). Ha gow is shrimp in an invisible dough covering (like dumplings, except its clear, its made of rice instead of dough).
There are many more things in "Tea Time" that you should try, such as shrimps enveloped in a white dough covering saturated in soy sauce (the greatest sauce on earth, fuck ketchup) and carrot paste cake (salty!).
