Easily the best scene in the movie. Quite easily.
They cut flesh with lasers in laser surgery so I suppose it can't be that far fetched. I doubt its in use if possible though.

It would be too big and not maneuverable enough. They use huge lasers to cut metal but even then they need to have it directly on the object they are trying to cut.
