I'm not interested in moving, but I guess if I had to move outside of Texas it would be to Yountville, CA, in the heart of the Napa Valley.

It's amazing how few people in this thread realise how much better Chicago is compared against every other city in the US.

I LOVE Chicago, but it's one of the few major cities I've ever been to.  So I am curious to know also.

Throw in a few examples maybe?

This doesn't say anything, other than you can't prove it.

Out of all of the major cities in the world I've been to, in terms of living (settling down) somewhere, the order would be as follows:

1. Prague, Czech Republic
2. Chicago, USA
3. Hong Kong, China
4. Lisbon, Portugal
5. Stockholm, Sweden
6. Munich, Germany
7. New York, USA
8. Rome, Italy
9. Madrid, Spain
10. Edinburgh, Scotland
11. Oslo, Norway
12. Boston, USA
13. Paris, France
14. London, England
15. Copenhagen, Denmark
16. Athens, Greece
17. Panamá City, Panamá
18. Havana, Cuba
19. Helsinki, Finland
20. Jerusalem, Palestine/Israel
21. Madison, USA
22. Glasgow, Scotland
23. Manchester, England
24. Washington, USA
25. Newcastle, England
26. Istanbul, Turkey
27. Tel Aviv, Israel
28. Beijing, China
29. Xi'an, China
30. Buffalo, USA
31. Tangiers, Morocco

The list omits the most miserable city in the world incidentally (Schenectady, NY).

Chicago is a good little four day vacation, Wrigleyville, Rush street, Bleeker, new Comiskey (what is it called, U.S. Cellular field?) are all cool, and there's plenty to do even if you're into the touristy stuff like Navy Pier, but man the weather is for fuck.

On top of that there are parts of town into which you absolutely, positively, do not go, even in the daytime. My buddy's dad was a Chicago cop for 40 years and he literally does not go into certain parts of town, and in other parts he loads his pistol, chambers a round, takes off the safety, and sets the gun in the console.

And back to the weather, anywhere that you have to stay indoors to keep your flesh from freezing and necrosing for more than about 1 hour a year is for shit. I'm not interested in that grey, nasty, ice scum that collects on the side of the road for 3 months. Speaking of roads, fuck me if you're trying to drive or commute. The traffic is BRUTAL.

Chicago in Spring and Fall. In the summer it's too friggin humid and windy, and in the winter it's colder than a witch's tit. Great town, great vacation spot, a HELL of a lot better than the shithole in which I live, but if you're looking for "the coolest city in America" it's WAY down the list. Probably somewhere in the mid-20s.
