First off, good on ya, Gmod is the best investment I have eer made game wise, by shear amount of replayability and stuff to do.
Secondally, check www.garrysmod.org Thats the main site for addons and the such. as for popular ones, it would include, but not limited to PHX(Phoneix model pack), Wire Mod, Stargate, Spacebuild 2, RS2, LS2, Vmod, and theres plently of others. As forlearning the game, check out youtube, they have tutorials on everything.

Before you do anything change your name. Also don't kill anyone in RP and don't touch other people's contraptions in build. If you are incapable of doing those then play ZombieSurvival.
