Hi all,

Posting this is my last resort, I'd really appreciate some help if you have the time.

To get to the point, I can't join a server or see other players on any server (i usually play on internode servers as they are my ISP provider and they are Aussie meaning a good ping).  Everything else loads perfectly, I can log into my account and search for servers (usually find 1700 with filters on). Also note that i use the in game server list to find and play games (always have).  My broadband works fine too.

I have recently experianced a motherboard failure with my DELL 8400 and have replaced the whole thing with a New case, ASUS motherboard & a  AMD64 AtholnX2 chipset.  I've reused everything else including my geforce 8500GT etc.

The main difference is that i had to purchase a new OS as the XP OEM version I had with my dell couldnt be reactivated with the new hardware. ...... Since i was forking out big cash i decided to buy Vista Home Premium ($440AU).

Windows installed with no real problem and I have installed my norton 2007, and have updated everything (yes the chipset, motherboard, vid card and everything else has been installed also).

What I have done is this ..

I installed BF2 (all went fine)

I installed Special Forces (all went fine)

I installed gamespy and updated it to the latest version (install went fine but when i log on to gamespy manually it finds BF2 as a game onmy system etc but when i try to find a room through gamespy itself but clicking on the BF2 icon it comes up with this "Error: Missing operator" I've read a bit about this but from I can see I'm not alone and there doesnt appear to be a fix ... im not sure if this is the cause of my in game BF2 server problem).

I installed patch 1.41 after doing the above.

I have then set BF2 to run as an administrator and I have slected the XP service pack 2 compatibility mode (tried every which way).

I have opened the norton firewall (which is the default, windows firewall is off) and have given BF2 and gamespy full permissions.

I have also tried the instalation procedure twice and have downlaoded the patch twice incase it was corrupt or something.

Same results everytime ... all loads fine, log in fine, search for servers fine, but when i go to join a server it doesnt do anything (it doesnt freeze, it just doesnt do anything), plus the fact that i cant see anyone in the server list (never had a problem with this before).

ok, thats about the size of it ... so far I have spent over $800AU on parts trying to play this game ($80AU) .... Im a captain and really do like having a game with mates and the general community ... but im just about at my limit with this and am considering giving it away if i cant rectify this problem.

As i said this my last resort ... can anyone please help me!!!!

Of course my populated filter is on bud.  Maybe I should have been even more specific.... the servers are listed when i search and when I go to join a POPULATED server nothing seems to happen and I can't actually see the people in the server even though it is populated (as indicated on the main screen).

Im wondering if this is gamespy issue or a port type issue (not real sure about port settings, however i have set the firewall to allow both BF2 and gamespy).

Does any know how to check if the necessary ports are open, ive found a few websites that indicate what ports should be open for BF2 but i cant seem to find any instructions of how to actually get in there and make sure they are open..... any ideas where i should be looking?  Also what version of gamespy are the vista users using .. do you have 2.0.5 installed or are you using the original version that cam with BF2?

Are you using a router? What type of firewall etc...?

Hi mate, in my first post i indicated:  "I have opened the norton firewall (which is now the default, the windows firewall is off) and have given BF2 and gamespy full permissions."

I'm using a router:  Brand "Open" Iconnect access 624.

I never had a problem with anything like this with my last computer and as far as i can figure my firewall is allowing access (otherwise i wouldnt have thought that i would be able to log on), the only thing i cannot rule out yet is if the particular port is open (although i cant understand why it wouldnt be though).

Im also wondering if its a gamespy issue ...

the xbox and ps3 sure are tempting at this point, not to often you get problems like this..... only i cant stand to use stupid controllers with fps.

Found your problem.

Nah, seriously though, have you tried clicking join now? (Bottom right hand corner)
Might just work for you, idk.
Also, since you said that it was working before you updated your system, try removing/replacing one thing at a time with old parts, and you should find your problem.
