I don't really know anything about this tech stuff so I hope you guys can help. I've tried reading other posts about this problem on other forums, but none have helped explain what this is.

Anyway, my internet connection has been screwing up a lot lately. I've had 250 ping on bf2s EU server (I'm in UK) today, and one of the possible causes was someone stealing my connection. I've got a password on it and the router's security is turned on which I would assume rules that out, but I found something interesting in my router's security logs.

New IPs are listed as every time I refresh the list, so I'm guessing this is what's been slowing my connection down. I'm pretty sure 10.252.4.1 is something to do with my ISP or my PC, but I'm not entirely sure.

Running XP SP2
Router: Belkin F5D7230-4

Anyone know what this is, and if it can be fixed? Is this what's screwing my connection up?

if i've been paying attention in my cisco classes (which i havent), ip addresses starting with 10.xxx.xxx.xxx are local.  dunno why it would block local traffic though.

Check for spyware that could be making a whole lot of outside requests (such as sending spam).

A DoS is a denial of service attack in which someone tries to send billions of packets to your computer (or to a server) trying to overload the connection and shut it down. Are you using a wireless router?

turn off repsonses to ICMP traffic. the act of logging that stuff costs.

And plug that blue wire into the side of your computer

you can also get your ip forcably refreshed, might have to call isp, chances are though that it happening on whole subnet. Won't hurt to try though.

Yep.
I'm not sure which router you have, but I know for netgear you can set up a MAC address connection list thing. Where you set up your mac address and only you will be able to connect to it. If that makes sense.

Try turning off the antivirus and firewalls and see what happens. My friends had troubles with their routers. It just turned out Norton was being too strict.

If this is a Linksys wireless router, you can do a few things to help.

1st change your key (wep/wpa)  you should use at lest WPA

2nd release/renew routers IP with ISP

3rd assign static ip to your computer and router, (use a different one) a 10.x.x.x & 192.x.x.x is a valid range for internal LAN use. the default router is 192.168.1.1 change to like 192.168.1.125 or something with in 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254

4th block IMCP requests (this stops the ping of death)

5th clear logs (disable logging)

6th open up dos (cmd in run) type the command netstat -b  this will show you every open connection on your computer and what it is and where its going

7th run virus & windows updates and scan whole computer

8th delete all viruses, defrag hard drive

9th restart computer.

If you need help changing ip address or anything let me know i can walk you threw it

if none of this helps then you could always disable the dhcp on your router, and assign each device on your network a static ip

change the mac address on router and nic

doing all of this will stop your problem

btw is 10.252.4.1 your IP address on the router or computer?

One way to stop people accessing the network will be to change the subnet.

How many computers are on the network?

Just two

Tried that but it didn't change anything.

Would getting a new router help things? I've had this one for a while, so I'm wondering if it could just be that? Oh and it's a Belkin F5D7230-4.

i dont really like belkins.  I have seen wireless cards and router that started to die give off alot of garbage which in turn hosed up the network bandwidth.

try plugging in with a cable with both computers for a day and see if theres a noticable difference.  If there is, then you could have a hardware component going out if none of my instructions work for you.  Like wireless cards and or router.

May I ask why you are on a class A network, when you have 3 (including the router), devices on the network?

I mean... theres nothing "wrong" with it- everything will still work fine, it's just that 10.x.x.x networks are generally used in large networks- whereas the 192.168.0/1.x networks are generally used for smaller networks.
