conig_mp = multiplayer
config.cfg = single
both are in the same directory

Unless you have steam, then it looks like...
c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty 4\players\profiles\name
That looks about right, doing it from memory because i dont have it installed on this PC.
