My take on the whole issue is that the cartoons were offensive to begin with. Generalizing muslims as terrorists doesnt help. If you have the balls to offend an entire religion, you better have the cojones to face the consequences.

Freedom of speech does not give you the right to freely insult someone and not expect a retaliation. There is nothing courageous about using your freedom of speech to ridicule the beliefs of one of the weakest sections of your society.

And no, Im not a muslim, Im a Christian who have my own beliefs. But in the end, my faith has taught me one thing that is most important for all of us. To have compassion for our fellow men, regardless of faith. To be sensitive enough to know when they are insulted or not.

Besides what do the cartoons purpose serve anyway? Sure you have the freedom to print something like that out, but in the end, its up to you if you want to offend or not. Can you really blame the muslims if they get offended? Although I agree that the protests and violence are too much, but still. It was their own fault for publishing the offensive toons anyway. If they didn't the world would be a more peaceful place than it is now, would it?

If you ask me, this is getting way out of hand.  It's a frickin political cartoon!  They burn and step on OUR FLAG (!).  The symbol of our country and we dont even do anything except show it on the nightly news and give them more publicity.  They're pissed off at everything and they need to relax.  I'm not saying that all Muslims are like this (because they're not) its just that the people that cant stand how our country is free and we're in "their land".  The worst part about it to me is that no matter what happens in the world, The United States gets blamed for the most part.  I dunno, i just had to get that off my chest and if there are any Muslims reading this, im not trynig to burn anyone.  Im all about freedom of religion and i have no problem with Muslims living in America.  It's just the Extremists that I have an issue with.

*Note:  forgive me if any of this seems offensive.  That is NOT my intent!

Probably.  Still, it's satire, if it isn't offending somebody, it's not very good satire.

They sure do make it easy with the way they react though.  Don't they?

Satire has been used to critisize and insult just about anything you care to name.  It is a familiar, common, and, I think, vital tool in commenting on the world around us.  The upshot of (some of) those cartoons is, "Gee, those Muslims are pretty violent, aren't they?  Damned if they didn't go and say, "We sure are."

Should the cartoonists have expected a reaction?  Absolutely.  And I would say the right of Muslims to protest in any non-violent manner should be protected just as much as the cartoonists right to draw the cartoons in the first place.

Unfortunately, many Muslims did not limit themselves to peaceful protests, and that is unacceptable.  The cartoons in question did not cause physical harm to anyone.  They did not limit or remove anyone's ability to make a living or keep a home.  The protestors took the problem from the realm of the intellect to the realm of the physical.  THIS WAS AN ESCALATION INTO THE REALM OF FORCE.  That was unacceptable.

Satire, as I noted above.  It is as old as the human race.

They can get as offended as they wish.  They have no right to harm anyone or anything.

I totally agree, If there's need to place blame, I'd put it in both parties.

For the publishers, in their part, if they knew what was going to happen, they at least should have cancelled the article (or W/e) the same way they cancelled a Jesus-Ressurection satire a couple of years ago.

For the muslims, come on, do you really need to kill someone, anyone or any danish person because of a cartoon? you want to kill a danish citizen because he's from the same country as the publisher of the magazine. You always say, we generalize muslims as terrorists, you're doing the same.
