I always close my virus protection program before playing any game.

I deleted my cache, and I'll try some of the things in that thread.

Renaming BF2.exe gets me kicked half of the time though.

Oh and also: Is there any reason for BF2 running like shit on lowest settings, versus CoD4 running like a dream on medium settings?

Well now I'm able to play it on medium settings (1240 x 1024 res) pretty smoothly, except every 5 minutes or so, the frame rate completely drops for roughly a minute.

I also used the pb_sleep 500 command.

to get the best performance... turn off voip and EAX... unless you have an EAX card... or you use ingame voip chatting(audio uses a lot of resources)
then set dynamic lighting and shadows to low or off...(those 2 use a lot of resources... plus no shadows reveals people hiding in the shadows...lol

and run the manual pb update... located on the pb site...

and adding another gig of ram would help a bunch... when i did it made things a lot smoother....

here's a thought mate. I had the exact same situation as you once, can't believe I was such a dumbass

Go into your card settings, and make sure everything like AA and AF is set to "application controlled"

I once had those both on 16x fullscreen, on a 7900GT. ¬_¬   fun times

Well I turned off VoIP and EAX, but it didn't seem to help.

Also, everything that can be set to be application controlled, is.

I noticed that using the pb_sleep command seemed to make it even worse.
