The US Congress has approved the first major gun control law since 1994, improving background checks on buyers.
A first step in the right direction. GG.

Well, I agree, but that's not the Congress job, they did their job this time.konfusion wrote:
Meh... the problem is that people haven't been following the previously set gun laws, what will make them follow this one? I think gun laws should be enforced much more rigorously.

yep, but seriously... someone being declared fucking nuts by a judge should NOT be able to buy guns.konfusion wrote:

I concur entirely, and I think this is a great step forwards. My point is merely that it isn't just the gun laws that are at fault here. It's the fact that they're not being followed combined with the gun laws.krazed wrote:

Being American, I am wary whenever a right is restricted or removed. It's the frog in boiling water. Take away rights slowly enough, and no one will notice until there's too big a hold to do anything about it.

Oh, it's more important than your freedom of speech or your right to vote /sarcasm.Nappy wrote:

Now come on Serge. I'm willing to bet that the majority of Americans don't feel that the 2nd Amendment is any more or less important than the other nine.sergeriver wrote:

Oh, so a terrorist, or known psychopath is at liberty to buy a gun whenever/wherever?FEOS wrote:

But Nappy, you're wrong. In the US, it is a right. That's why it's in the Bill of Rights. That is a listing of ten rights that our government is supposed to ensure are not infringed upon.
Criminals do not have the same rights as everyone else. For example, someone convicted of a felony cannot vote, cannot purchase a firearm, etc. Don't get me wrong...I personally believe that there are some people who aren't criminals who should not have access to firearms. But then again, I believe there are some people who shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a vehicle, either (which is not a right, BTW).Spark wrote:

Because if they pull a sneak attack all the civillians with weapons will kick their ass.herrr_smity wrote:

Ok Serge, honestly, do think a gun ban will keep guns out of the hands of criminals or only law abiding citizens? Drugs are illegal in the US yet there does not seem to be a shortage of crackheads and meth labs.sergeriver wrote:

Ok, then give any nutjob green light. I think a better gun control will curb these episodes. And drugs and guns are different things.lowing wrote:

Sege, the nutjobs already have the damn guns, simply, my household is now on a level playing field with any nutjob that thinks he can help himself into my home.sergeriver wrote:

Drugs create a physical and psychological dependency. Guns don't. Therefore you will have a demand of drugs independant of drugs being illegal or legal.lowing wrote:

Drugs and guns are different, of course, but the rationale is the same. Drugs are illegal, and there is no shortage of them. There is no reason to believe making guns illegal would remove them from criminals.
Can't have a dependency UNTIL after the first time you did the ALREADY ILLEGAL drugssergeriver wrote:

Yeah, true that. But once you become dependant, and another guy become dependant, and the other one, the demand is stable. So, the supply will be stable too. The demand for guns is another story IMO. You don't have a physical need for guns. It's easier to have a free of guns society than a free of drugs society. Maybe not in US.lowing wrote:

Serge, I am all for it, and the minute someone comes up with a plan to KEEP guns out of the hands of criminals and KEEP corrupt govts. in check without fear from the citizens and GUARANTEE this. I will comply.sergeriver wrote:
