Hey guys

Ive been experiencing some trouble with my machine lately.

Basically when I use it for web / work its fine but when I play BF2 or COD4 for a while; the screen goes blank the box turns off and I get a "No Signal Detected" message on the monitor.

When the machine powers off the light stays on like its on stand by. I thought this might just be the machine overheating so I cleaned the fans and moved it away from the walls to help air flow a bit better but it still crashed.

I'm not great with tech stuff but if any of you could give me any advice or have experienced this yourselves then please help me!

Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz Dual Core
2G RAM
Radeon x1300/1550 Series 256MB
Latest Driver - 6.14.0010.6727
Running on Windows XP

BF2 is on high settings and COD4 on medium. This hasn't been a problem before

i had the same problem

try cleaning out all your fans and that becuase your computer may be over heating

Yeah I did that but to no avail. I had a look around for some CPU / G card monitoring software but couldn't was pretty much overwhelmed by the choice.
Can anybody recommend some software?

That sounds like a plan! Right I'm off to work. I havn't posted here much for a while but I'm going to try and be a bit more active again.

Leave the case open and make sure the fans are spinning on your videocard and that you don't smell anything burning. But be sure to close the case back up after a short bit because then you'll just lose air and the thing will overheat.

Yeah I was once having a similar problem. Starting getting major video artifacts and then a complete shutdown, only when playing games. Turns out my videocard's fan was broken. Was all gunked up and wouldn't move at all! I RMA'd for a new one, and of course it has the same problems. Radeon 9800 Pro's have shitty cooling, as I'm now aware. Now, I just have to hang around a bit when my PC starts up and make sure I don't smell anything like burning plastic. It's funny because sometimes I'll have to open up the case and manually get the fan going, like a boat!


If the fan is the problem, and it persists, you should just go with an aftermarket fan. You'll probably get better cooling, and it's less liable to screw up on you.

Does it happen on any other games? Whats the idle temp of your CPU/GPU ? Installed anything new recently? Ran spy/ad etc-ware scans?

Done scans with Avast Anti-Virus and Spy-Bot Search and Destroy but with no results.

Will try and vacuum the computer (very carefully) like a few work collegues have suggested and then try and find out the running temps. But I'm still at work and I'm not going to have time to try this until tomorrow night I don't think.
