Ok, so I have a problem with BF2.

I have been away at university the past 4 months and during this period my parents took the pc for a 'health check' at pc world.
Somewhere at pc world they managed to fuck the hardrive up, and it's only by luck the hardrive wasn't corrupted with all files deleted. I'm not exackly sure what was going on at pc world, they are only mean't to check everything is working, yet they managed to do more damage than good. They never even defragged it......amateurs.

Anyhow, having got the pc back, internet alot slower and laggy too...and BF2 is extremely laggy....even on ultra low settings. BF2 worked excellent before and my specs are adequate for medium setting and ultra good for low setting.
What did they do and what can I do to rectify this situation? I am confident it is internet related because I can play BF2 normally on single player fine.

cheers and thanks for the help

What're you pinging in-game?
Try another server, it could be that the one you're trying is too far away, and you're getting a dodgey connection.
Try different cables if you don't have a router. Try a different router, if you do, or a different wireless card if you have one.

Check your cpu usage while playing and see if anything else is dragging out power from your cpu? If it is internet related, perhaps some anti-virus doing a background scan while u play? Perhaps some updates downloading?

Check your internet connection and see if there's activity while you are NOT playing. Try to identify what kind of activity?

it might be norton 360 they installed. I will try and check what it is......but everyone agrees...all my family, it is much slower than before. The graphics card isn't the best....but the processor is still fairly fast with plenty of memory.

thanks for the help
